Ebay to be boycotted week of 2 17 thru 23

From what i hear a boycott is being organized, sellers are not going to list any items for that week.

Anyone else hea rof this?

Anyone going to join it?

Steve
Good for you.

  • I've heard nothing.

    Guarantee Levi lists that week.
  • Sure I'll join, I didn't plan on listing anything anytime soon anyway. Lot of "anys" in that sentence.

And my opinion on a "boycott" of ebay is that it will have little effect if any. For one, there's thousands of people who make a living on ebay. I hardly think that they will give up a weeks worth of profit for a boycott that will do nothing. For two, 7 (and even 5) day auctions will spill over in the supposed boycott week anyway, making any attempt to slow down ebay auctions during that week, pretty futile.

    Thousands will boycott

I will likely list, UNLESS they have a "free listing" day.

CNN has even reported the story, this time.

Sign me up for the boycott.
Only one week? "Let's play two."
Ebay is an ok target, though it would be better to include PSA. Send no submissions.

What and why exactly are people boycotting?

I plan to boycott the boycott.

  • I'm still calling ebay won't curl up in the fetal position and suddenly lower their fees in fear of people not listing. And what do they think a week is going to do??? Shouldn't the "revolutionaries" be willing to boycott ebay for good?

Why? What'd they do? Raise prices? LOL - Like any business...they'll get whatever the traffic can bear - a week boycott is a fraud...either do business with ebay or don't...on a continous basis...it's as simple as that.

Ebay was only a venue not the seller. That set could be put together WITH OR WITHOUT Ebay.

dont forget to use the "chin rest"
  • Yeah sure they are going to boycott.. Its like people trying to boycott gas for a day. The gas companies do not care they know you will have to fill up the day before or the day after. Ebay will look at it the same way.

I am not going to lose 25% of my weekly income to boycott some stupid policy changes. Sellers will either have to ADJUST OR DIE!!!

I agree, that is why I simply asked if anyone else had even heard of this.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I will not be boycotting. The new fees are fine by me and i am taking a wait and see approach to the feedback. I really do not think it will matter all that much because buyers will still be able to know who the good and bad sellers are. The ratings might be lower overall, but instea of comparing a 97% seller to a 99% seller, you might be comparing a 92 to a 96 or something like that. Both buyers and sellers will adjust and all will move on from there.

  • If carried out fully it would work amazingly well, fees would drop, sellers could keep more money and buyers could find things for lower prices

Unfortunately in this case the people are not united

I'm still not sure what the boycott is about. The feedback? The Fees? or is this just "general boycott"

But this reminds me of the gas pump boycotts. People fill the day before and then drive the same amount. To go a week without listing doesn't cost e-bay any money. In order to boycott you have to actually sell the item somewhere else, thus removing e-bays piece. I'm sure this will work flawlessly.

  • Do you think Ebay does not already know about this so called boycott? It would not suprise me if that Wednesday they have a 10 cent day or something just to break it.

That said I read 15% of sellers rely on Ebay as their total income. These people will not be able to not list for a full week if they do they will simply list more the week before or less the week after. I will list everyday during this time as less competition should equal more sales.

Boycotts and petitiions have never worked with Ebay and they do have a track record of dealing with people who participate in such things.

  • << <i>That said I read 15% of sellers rely on Ebay as their total income. >>

Maybe it is the 15% who are organizing this boycott to lighten up the listings for a week so their products hit the spot light.

    image
  • The bottom line is they'll recover from any losses (if they even suffer a loss, which is unlikely).

In the big scheme of things, we're nothing to eBay. if they never got another cent from anyone on any card/coin foum, they'd still survive.

The boycott is a waste of time.

Actually, I'll be looking to buy that week especially.

  • I boycott ebay every time they have a .10 listing day. As a seller, I don't wany my stuff to get lost in all the muck people list. You know, the kind of stuff they might normally just toss in the trash but save for just that occasion. As a buyer, I don't want to have to filter through even more of that same muck than usual. So I just wait a week or so for the clogged ebay drain to clear up a little, before listing or buying.

Boycott's will never work unless there is a viable alternative.........for ALL sellers, not just sports card sellers.......and there isn't.

    Good question Steve.

    I don't sell - so I really don't have any direct input.

Why are they unhappy? I'm gonna guess - fees?

Indirectly - the idea of fees come up every now and again - and guys like me have the same POV - I wish I could run my office for what it would cost to have a full time business where all of it came from ebay - and the only thing I also had to do was have a comprehensive receiving/accounting/customer service section and shipping operation for the goods I was purveying.

From what I can see, Ebay is the only game in town - so I'm dancin' with the partner I came with.

What is the point of the boycott? Should there be a thread entitled "Boycott Ebay because......."

I believe ebay is great - what is a reasonable alternative? I can advertise, sell and receive payment for an item for under 8%. Who else is gonna do that for me?

    Yup.

FeedBack changes seem to be the primary issue, this time.
Although fees are also being protested; the hike is BIG.

The fear is that PSers will not receive DSR-discounts on FVFs.
4.6/4.8 DSRs equal 5%/15% discounts; they will likely not
be realized because even sellers offering FREE S&H are
being given -4 DSRs by PSYCHO buyers.

    Not under the new scheme.

Stores will be hit particularly hard.

Still the BEST deal for online sellers, BUT retail prices will have to be adjusted upward
    to maintain current margins.
