If you are thinking about deleting your sets, just mark them as "no viewable" to show supp

Maybe they will get the idea of how many collectors they might have lost

Many people already have sets that are not viewable. Deleting them is the only way to show support. If the numbers start to drop, then the message will be heard. When you look at the number of people with registry sets, there are two groups, the serious and the not serious. The Not serious group is larger than the serious group, so deleting sets (which would only be done by the serious) would probably not have an impact.

If a few very top notch sets were deleted, and placed at NGC, that may give a different message.

I don't think that deleting sets sends any message to PCGS. Deleting the sets and letting PCGS KNOW that they have been deleted and why might have some affect.

  • If you delete the set, but still work on it by buying more PCGS coins, will PCGS care? I don't think they will unless you stop buying their coins.

Just move your set to NGC.... NGC takes PCGS coins! image

I understand a number of people are unhappy with certain decisions by PCGS on the registry sets. I am in the no varieties camp myself.

However, in the Mercury set we are seeing sets added every day and I mean really good ones. The number one set was added a couple of days ago. The Mercury collectors (myself included) seem to have found kindred souls here and we are all having a lot of fun.

I hope everyone else can reconcile their issues and find a way back to enjoying the hobby together.

Please people, PCGS is bending over backward trying to please as many people as they can with the registry set. They went so far as to send out a servey to all the members that participate in the set registry to get input to better the registry.

Why may I ask are you deleting your sets? Is it because you don't like how they are grading your coins?

First of all, the two are not even related, one point has to do with grades, the other has to do with how good your set is.

Second, I think (If this is the reason you are deleting) it is a bit childish. PCGS gave you the oppurtunity FOR FREE to participate in the PCGS set, they make no royalties (That I know off) by maintaining the registry sets (Except a few more PCGS slabs purchased I guess).

This is the only reason I see you deleting the sets, if you are deleting them because you do not agree with variations and cameo points I must continue with the childish plea, they are in the process of adjusting their original standards to comply with the majority of your requests!

If you want to go, I say GET THE HE-LL OUT. And when you go, move onto NGC message boards, you are kind of making a fool of yourself if you are so against PCGS but you will come back here on their forum to talk bad about them.

Here I go again speaking my mind, I know I should fluff my responces up but this exact topic has been eating at me for some time now.

I will not delete or edit my last message as it is how I feel, and I know how people feel about edited posts said out of anger, so, to that post I add, a friend has enlightened me to other views and I respect and understand those views. Allow me to state, that half of that last post was said with a size 8 1/2 reg boot in my mouth...lol.

As I said, it was said (Without fluff) in anger, but the words I spoke I hold true to.

I also, know there are two sides to every story (Of which my friend enlightened me).

With that said, everyone (And I mean everyone) have a great night/day (Where ever the hay you are...lol)

  • I think I agree with MrPaseo on this one... If folks don't want to play, they should take their coins and go home. Why they feel the need to come here and announce their departure is beyond me. If someone doesn't like the rules of the PCGS registry, they don't have to play. Just don't think you're some kind of martyr for deleting your set. The rest of the sets just move up and new collectors fill in the space.

I'm not trying to be nasty here, but some folks belong here, some belong at NGC and some are more happy sitting home, defining their own sets and collecting them. Everyone should do what makes them happy, that is what the idea of a hobby is all about... right?

So what your saying is that if you were happy the way it was, you should either quit or conform with the way it is now. I wish everyone thought that way. George Washington, Martin Luther King, they should have all just conformed and left it up to those in power.

    Hi MadMike,

I believe announcing their departure is just part of the frustration level with PCGS these days and a normal part of venting. I seriously doubt people will quit collecting over PCGS's arbitrary and self-serving new standards. But that doesn't mean they have to be happy about it. I think if everyone came on here only when they were happy, it would probably be a pretty boring board! I remember posts (including some of yours image ) where folks weren't happy about one thing or another.

If none of these changes affect you or your sets, that's great! All's fine in Camelot. For those that it does affect, they have every right to air their concerns and disdain. We will all conform whatever the rules are and within the rules. But just like in our larger society, we don't have to like the rules and have the right to challenge the rules to make it better for everyone.

The last US presidential election was about as 50-50 as you can get. That didn't mean that half the country was wrong and half the country was right. In the end, the country is much stronger. But that didn't mean folks couldn't speak their minds. Heck, half of Hollywood threatened to move out of the country if Dubya got elected. Did they go? Of course not, where could they go and enjoy what they have today? We are running the same course here and the parallel is that at the current moment, PCGS politics suck. Big time. But we'll continue playing and trying to make it better. If that doesn't work, people will bail and PCGS will go down the tubes. But that's PCGS's problem and only they can rectify it. We can give them ideas and opinions, but if they don't want our help, they should either not waste our time asking for it or they should listen and try to conform.

Have a great day everyone. Dave
  • I wish those who claimed they would leave the country if GWB was elected would follow through!!

Just to keep it coin related, my registered sets are staying right here, viewable to all. And my proof JFK set is nearing completion too.
  • Howdy Dave,

I understand that some are frustrated, I just don't see the "if I don't get my way, I'm going to quit" approach as being very productive. I think folks would be better off to stay and try to affect some change.

    Yeah, that's true! image

I totally agree, but again, I don't think deleting one's set will acomplish anything.

Yeah, I was pretty dissapointed that they didn't go. image
I even sent email to Barbara Striesand's website offering to purchase her an airline ticket to speed her on her way... alas, she's sill here! image

But really, I do hope that PCGS manages to keep most of us happy (I've got issues too!) but even if none of the changes I'm waiting for ever come to pass... I'll still play!

    Happy Collecting,

I think that comparing the collecting of little slabbed coins to the acts of courage and bravery shown by great American leaders is a bit of a stretch....just my opinion.

  • From time to time, I have looked at the total number of sets registered since Dec. of 2001. I have seen 1770+ registered,
1820+ registered, and now over 1900 registered. It looks like
the Registry is still gaining in popularity.

But what are the sets being listed? There are currently 10,070 Mint State (coins that grade MS60+) Barber Quarters listed in the current Population report. Of these, "0" are in the registry! I think it is definately a different type of collector who even lists their set, certainly not the "finest" sets for all categories. There is buy one set listed in the Barber Quarter category, this set consists of one coin (although the key) in VG. If the registry was everything it was meant to be, you would think you could get even one of these 10k+ coins to be listed!

  • Hi Monsta,

It really wasn't a comparison between coins and leaders, it was the parallel between politics and the masses.

For one, I haven't seen any "acts of bravery and courage" demonstrated by leaders in politics. On the battlefields of Afghanistan yes, but Wash, DC? Or were you talking about the Actors Guild? Maybe on screen but never in Hollywood!

BTW, your signature line fits right in with this opinion "Life is a joke.....begin laughing now!" image

    Thanks, Dave
  • When people started complaining about the system I orginally made my sets non-viewable. I have gone back and changed them all to viewable except one.

I finished the Lincoln Proof (1950 to date) so it stays blacked out. It is for my own use, and I never wanted to be in a position of saying my coins are better than your coins. I just wanted to show the overall quality of the collection I established.

The ones that I made viewable are used as my want list. Many fellow collectors and some dealers have helped me fill in some holes and upgraded some of my lower grade coins when new stock arrives. It is also a great way to discuss your collection with fellow collectors. This I feel is the heart of the hobby and what makes it enjoyable on another level.

So I think I will black out when they are completed and keep them open when they are being built.
