Caption Contest Poll - WINNER!

The entries in this contest were very good. As mentioned I've decided to turn this into a poll for which you nice folks can decide the winner. Had I actually been giving away a Bag O' Crap I would have decided myself. But since the Bag O' Crap was actually just a ruse on my part and I had intention on giving away something good, as an afterthought I felt it would probably be better for y'all to decide the winner. I like them all. They were all very good - especially the picture edited ones. It was difficult to narrow it down to four, but here are my favorites and you can decide the winner of a beautiful 1993 MS-69 American Silver Eagle coin. Should there be a tie in the vote, I will ask a non-contestant to break the tie.

Had I not committed the heinous act myself (wearing steel-toed boots) once, it probably would have been funnier. I did in fact dig a rather large hole.

I will regale you with my crowning achievement. It was a Spring morning many years ago and I hadn't gotten out to detect yet that year so I was a rearin' to go. The weather was quite brisk and the ground had not yet unfrozen to a respectable digging depth. I got a foil/trash signal but since it was my first signal, I was going to dig it. After a lot of chipping and grunting I had seemed to lose the signal. This isn't too unusual because sometimes in the act of digging, a target will get cleaved by the digger and end up being too small to give off another signal when rechecked. Staring at this pile of frozen dirt chips and the accompanying hole, I started to get obsessed with finding this "target". I continued to dig and soon the gloves came off and I was sweating and cursing. I rechecked the hole and got the signal again! Now I'm really pawing away at this hole and up pops GOLD! Hotdamn, I had done it, a gold ring! It was at this point that I realized that "the ring" was none other than my own wedding band which had fallen off my hand and into the hole during this digging frenzy. I never did find that other target. Anyway...

Thanks for the all the votes and a special thanks to Gary for offering up such a generous prize. It will have a permanent spot in my collection.
    Happy hunting all.

Had I not also committed the same act once myself, maybe you wouldn't have gotten my vote, but I did, and you did. image

PS- as to your wedding band story- I have "detected" my own wedding band many a time, but fortunately it's never fallen off. That would prolly take a little bit of grease or Vaseline and a goodly amount of twisting and tugging to accomplish. Good thing yours chose to fall off in some dirt you happened to be detecting in! (Did you share that tale with your spouse? Hope she has a sense of humor! LOL)

It was at a time that I had lost some weight and was in need of having the ring resized. That coupled with the fact that it was cold was a recipe for disaster.

Very funny that you should mention that Rob. Yes, she does have a wonderful sense of humor but - No, I did not share that little tidbit with her. image
