I have never dipped a coin in anything other than acetone...

Can someone tell me what the difference is between "eZest" & "MS70"? Are they both detergents? Are they used for the same purpose, or are they two different types of products? Thanks ~

MS70 is a super soap. Swab the surfaces with a Q-Tip and rinse. Removes grime, haze & some color.
eZest & Jewelluster are acids. Dip & rinse or spot swab and rinse. Removes toning and strips the surfaces.
Well, just Love coins, period.

I've made the mistake of not washing my coins well enough...
lesson learned!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>MS70 is known to tone copper bluish.....just look up threads here or go to the NGC boards and read some recent (and past) threads.....very "fun" reading
Is there anything that doesn't?? I had that problem when I just used a little Dawn dishwashing liquid & warm water too..... but it only seemed to tone the worn areas?? Ended up with a very funky IHC.
MS70=bad.
E-Z-Est=good.
i have used E-Z-Est successfully on silver, nickel, clad and copper with good results. though i have admittedly never used MS70, i have heard enough about the results and watched others use it enough times to realize there are better products which give superior results. i would never suggest anyone use it on anything.
<< <i>What about xylol/xylene? I've heard that can be used on copper but have no idea where it can be purchased. >>
Xylene [pronounced zylene] would not be expected to have anything other than a degreasing effect on coins. In that respect its probably a bit safer than acetone for use on copper, since it is a hydrocarbon and not oxygenated like acetone is. Charcoal starter fluid would likely work as well.

I've never used MS70 but I have heard one should wear gloves when dealing with any of these things....

<< <i>Don't be a chump. Don't dip. Leave it natural. >>
Most people would disagree, some coins NEED a dip.

<< <i>What will remove verdigris from copper?
MS70 is said to turn copper blue, can it also turn copper red also, ie both colors appearing on the same coin?
And does MS70 leave a coin looking wet, is that how you can tell?
And is MS70 also used to remove verdigris? >>
White vinegar and salt solution for 30-45 minutes. It will also remove toning. If the verdigris is being difficult swish the liquid around a little.
<< <i>Where does Blue Ribbon enter the discussion? >>
Yeah, what type of product is Blue Ribbon?
No experiments are good experiments.
<< <i>What about xylol/xylene? I've heard that can be used on copper but have no idea where it can be purchased. >>
My personal experience with xylene was a bit of disaster--it left some coins pitted. I would not use it again.
<< <i>Anyone have any bottles of these dips handy with an ingredient list on the bottle?? >>
Just took a look at the MS70 bottle. There are no ingredients listed.
