Maybe the Water Heater isn't the best place to stash the gold coins.

Who would think to look there? I wonder if he just miss-placed them in the confusion of the move.

I don't know who would look there. I just don't think I would leave 24K lying around. My wife gave me 1k in cash to use toward a new floor and I could not get to the ATM fast enough to deposit it. I was not keeping it with me all the way to the flooring store.

<< <i>Sounds like he did everything wrong.

    1. He put coins behind a water heater. Still scratching my head. >>

Normally I'd suggest he was trying to AT them, except that he says they were in a roll.

    1. He put coins behind a water heater. Still scratching my head.
    2. He let strangers into his apt while he wasn't there.
    3. He left a bank statement (or something similar) out where it could be seen.

Just keep in mind that if you rent it's not uncommon that the landlord can let people in for repairs without you being there. It happens all the time in apartments when you report a problem.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Why on earth is someone with $24K in gold and $150K in the bank renting an apartment?

This sounds real suspicious, too! If I were the police, I'd be looking into this guy more closely.

Apparently he thought it would be a good temporary place (where no one would look) to keep the coins until he could get to his SDB. Blame the victim rather than the low life crook who stole it. A lot of really smart guys on this forum.
