EBAY FB Change Could Kill Sellers Of High-Value Sports Cards

Under the new scheme, your DSR #s will determine how quickly
you can access your PayPal payments.

IF EBAY "suspects this transaction may result in an unsatisfactory
buyer experience," PayPal will hold your money for "21-days or longer."

IF your DSR #s are not close to the top tier, PayPal will hold your money
for "21 days or longer."

You can read all of the details at the EBAY message boards. Try the
"stores board" and the "feedback board" for starters.

EBAY has gone INSANE........ again.

    DSR = Detailed Seller Ratings
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
  • My DSR just became viewable. Apparently I just now had enough people to fill them out. It's amazing that since the system went that route I have 100% positives. However, let's just say my DSR is nowhere close to perfect.

Most sellers of high value cards should be OK. They are talking about DSR of 4.5 or better, it isn't really hard to keep your #s above that. Nice scan, ship when paid, tell the buyer it is on the way, don't rip them off shipping wise, pretty easy in my opinion. I would assume people with high value cards have some idea what they are doing, if they don't then they deserve to wait a little for their $$.
It's about time ebay does something to slow down the scammers and turds. It's not a great solution, but OK if you ask me. this may drive some more business and bids to the "good guys" that are out there.
  • And just for reiteration as to how ignorant and impatient buyers can be, my DSR is a 4.6/5 in regards to shipping time. What's cool about that is that every sold item gets a ton of personal attention considering that when I do sell I will sell 6-10 things in one shot. I contact the buyer, explain that their item will go out within 24 hours of the posting of the PayPal and have even gone the route of printing the label to give them the extra sense of security.

    Yikes.

The new chief said this morning that he "will consider" giving
all sellers an automatic 5 on the S&H box, IF they offer "FREE Shipping."

I offer "free" shipping on everything.

MOST sellers have resisted this because they do not want to pay the FVF
on shipping costs. This new scheme will likely force more sellers into my
    "free" shipping camp.

  • The DSR ping will only be recorded when you recieve a rating of a 1 or 2 on your DSR. All it takes is one idiot to mess you up. I got a guy whining right now because he has not recieved his item yet. He paid for it Sunday evening.

I like it but I speak primarily as a buyer. Generally I give out 5 stars when they're merited, and that's most of the time. But the time when someone sent me a golden age comic rattling around loose in an oversized potato chip box? Exactly what should they deserve in that case? That earned a "1" from me.

As far as waiting times, I paid for a different thing on the 14th, paid immediately with PayPal. Asked today and the item was shipped on the 22nd. Hmmm, I don't think it should take 8 days to make it on down to the P.O.... there's always an idiot seller for every idiot buyer out there.

  • I think this may also blow up in ebay's face. They're giving the buyer a huge sense of entitlement with this crap. Now I have sold on ebay and always keep the buyer in the loop as to when the item will ship and I don't overcharge for shipping, etc. I can understand making sure the buyer is satisfied, but this ebay-wide change is going to give impatient and clueless buyers (of which there are more of than bad sellers IMO) the power to actually keep money from people. Believe me, if the majority of buyers know all of the info about this change, sellers can basically be held "hostage" (or at the very least are at the mercy of every buyer no matter what kind of idiots they are) with not a whole lot of security given to sellers in order to keep their feedback and DSR at a level that coincides with reality.

And what does "if ebay suspects the transaction may result in an unsatisfactory buyer experience" even mean???? They can tell the future? I can't see a whole lot of clues that would lead them to believe this before a transaction takes place.

  • Oh, and my point from the above post was: ebay makes money off of sellers, not buyers. What ever happened to "The customer is always right?" Sure, the buyer is a customer, but I, as a seller, was ebay's customer first. Ok, I'm getting delierious now, gotta stop typing.

EBAY has NEVER thought of its sellers as "customers."

    The buyers are EBAY's "customers."

Sellers are JUST the folks who pay EBAY money.

You sure do have a lot of issues with Buyers. Seriously, not picking on you, just stating an observation.

Just out of curiosity, have you mailed his item yet?

Boy, auction houses gotta be loving this.

The sellers who don't already have multiple selling accounts established will be hurt the most by this.

There are already several sellers of high end material that do not take PayPal. Now that number may increase.

    From their announcements page:

Also, for a small number of these transactions paid with PayPal, when eBay suspects the transaction may result in a dissatisfied customer, PayPal will delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute.

I'd like to put context around this last detail for our good sellers: Sellers with an established track record and more than 95 percent satisfied buyers in the last 30 days will not have funds held. And, sellers on eBay will continue to receive the vast majority of payment funds much faster than other marketplaces.

And if you haven't sold anything over the last 30 days? Or if you sold ten items, one jerk negged you, but it was the only neg you ever received? Sounds like that would be a very high percentage of their transactions, if that's what they mean.

eBay has gone too far this time. DSR system sucks and needs to be taken out. Even if the seller does there part perfectly buyer's don't care and leave all one stars (the idiots I mean...).
  • Yes the item has shipped out it went out today, but that is beside the point.. This idiot expected me to mail it as soon as he paid. I sell in several other categories the bulk of my card sales are great.

What kills me the buyers that are the biggest headaches are the ones who spend very little. I never have any problems with transactions over 25.00. 95% of my problem buyers and UPIs come from items less than 5.00
