The biggest load of Ebay BS ever...

So, at 12:52pm, my PSA 8 1960 Al Kaline closes it's auction @ $609. It is a very sharp card. At 1:19pm , I get this message from ebay:

Dear hustledouble,

The results of the following listing(s) have been cancelled due to bidding activity that took place without the account owner's authorization:

160200567274 1960 TOPPS #50 AL KALINE PSA 8 NM/MT+ HIGH END TIGERS

What kind of BS is that? Within 30 minutes the high bidder realized that someone else hijaked his account and reported it? Was this just some jerk who got cold feet?
this is his ebay profile: wing02er

How can ebay allow this to go down? This is a link to the new auction: 1960 Al Kaline PSA 8

Huh? do you think the winner tried to bail out and claimed his account was hijacked?

    sorry this happened.

    Stev
    Good for you.
  • I guess it is possible that his account was hijacked. If you look at his feedback, he hasn't bought anything in almost two and a half years. Sorry about that.

looks like a possible hijacking. the guy hadn't bought anything in almost 4 years.

he probably got the winning bidder email and then complained

sucks for you though. maybe you'll get more the 2nd time around image

edit opps the 4 years was since he sold something. my bad
  • Out of all of the things someone would professionally bid on...a '60 Kaline? You know it just doesn't make sense. If some kid or random deviant adult was going to do something like that why do it and snipe a bid on for a baseball card like that? It seems like a specialized thing to bid on. If the "hijacker" was going to randomly type in something to bid on, would he really type in Kaline 1960 PSA 8? Maybe someone did it intentionally for some reason?

    Yeah that does sound odd.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I also had a zero feeback bidder on my Norm Cash the day before and I specifically say "no zero feedback bidders". I'm sure that happends from time to time, but I'm begining to think it's a conspiracy. OK maybe not. Maybe it's a rival seller upset that I'm selling such nice cards?

jhp, what was the bidding history on the Kaline? I'm surprised it got to $600 with an SMR of $150. Was there a bidding war going on?

Don't panic. This happened to me last year, except I was the bidder. Fortunately, the seller was a friend so he asked what was up. Apparently snipes from esnipe caused this. I immediately switched over to justsnipe and have not had any more problems.
  • So you're saying that he set his bid in the sniping program and it misfired...and then he claimed he got hacked? If that's the case, that's pretty crappy. It's a damn nice card and there certainly were some aggressive bidders that wanted one that nice badly.

I guess the timing confuses me? - 20 minutes later from auction end and you get that email - something smells fishy there - the guy hasnt bid or won an auction in how long and he contacts ebay within minutes of close and you receive that email?

No, eBay or the sniping service interpreted that is was a hacked account, when it was not. It is not the fault of the bidder, unless he renegs on the deal. Just process the winning bid accordingly. On the bidder's side, there is a couple of steps he/she needs to do (like change password) but when it happened to me, I contacted eBay Security and they were able to reset things for me.

    Here was my thread
  • Maybe I'm not so sharp, but I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Simple put, eBay interpreted the snipe bid as coming from a bogus user, under the name of wing02er. But it was not a bogus user and the bid is likely legitimate. Just ignore eBay's misinterpretation. Contact the user, tell him what happened and it should proceed normally from there. Tell him to switch to another sniping server as well.
  • He claimed that he got 200 emails from ebay and that he had no idea about what happened. That soundy fishy.

If he had that many snipes set, that makes sense. Just give him an invoice and follow the instructions I talked about earlier.

There is no way to block buyers with zero feedback from bidding. In fact many times they turn out to be great. As a buyer is I see that I usually hit the back button myself unless it is something I really need. Sellers who do that seem to petty for me.
  • I don't think it's petty at all. If someone whith zero feedback emails me in advance to explain his situation, I wouldn't care. What I know from my own experience is that every zero feedback bidder that's bid on my items has skunked me...and a few other sellers at the same time.
  • That does suck for you man. I would have been ecstatic on the $609 high bid (but to be honest, I'd be a little skeptical too, that's a little high). Because of the large high bid, I would think that this was a legit hijacked account.

ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.
  • I have had more trouble getting experienced Ebayers to pay than zeros. 5 of the last 6 UPIs I have filed have had over 100 positives. The only one less had 32. My last 10 zeros have paid within a few hours of the item ending.
  • I sure hope I get one like you've had and not like I've experienced. It's good to know that I'm not 100% screwed. I'll let everyone know what happens.

    I was a ZERO-feedback bidder, once.

Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
  • So was I..

Many veteran Ebayers will create new IDs for bidding. I had a regular customer with over 1000 positives the other day bid on my items with a new ID he told me he just wanted to hide what he was buying so he got the buying ID.

As a seller I have never understood what is accomplished when a zero contacts you before bidding, how does this make him any more likely to pay?
  • Probably was some sort of honest mistake as the card sold for significantly higher than the norm. As long as you get your fees back, you should be able to re-list and hopefully the same bidders will go after it again.

  • I placed them on my blocked bidders list anyway. Something smells fishy. Did eBay erase all of the hijackers bidding activity? Because there is none to be found. Also, that bidder did have one negative in the past with only 16 positives and the neg was for being a deadbeat.
  • One thing about listings that are canceled that way it does not have to be the winner. If any bidder on the auction has a hijacked account Ebay will consider that auction to have been unfairly bid on and will cancel the auction.

I had one cancelled like that back in August that was won by one of my regs, he paid and was happy so it was not a big deal.

I have a question how can JP contact anyone if the auction has been erased?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Good question. The listing, the bidders, everything was erased. It still smells fishy.
