Tiffany & Co. 1837 earrings.

It's been a bit too cold to detect here, (5 degrees as I type) but I did manage to come up with a nice wildcard entry for January.

I was walking down a hallway at the high school I now work at, and noticed a set of earrings interlocked together lying on the floor.
As soon as I picked them up I could see T&Co. 1837 engraved on each one. I promptly stopped by the administration office and gave them to the secretary to add to the lost and found box. Later that day a girl stopped by and asked if anyone had found a set of earings. She was very happy to get them back as they were a Christmas gift from her father. The secretary told her I had found them and turned them in, so the girl immediately tracked me down to thank me. I was feeling pretty good the rest of the day. image

Cool story. Makes you feel good when someone appreciates it - doesn't it?

That's gotta feel good, being able to return something like that.

You'll almost certainly get my Wildcard vote as well.

(FYI to the newer folk- people who find jewelry or other items and return them to their rightful owner still get to enter the find in the monthly awards).

I should add. If you work in a High School you work in a gold mine for roadkill coins in the halls and parking lots. Detect on the practice band field.

Wow. I'll bet she was happy to get them back. Nice earrings.

On a similar note, my youngest son found a class ring at his high school.
I was an out of state school and it had the guy's name on it.
I went to classmates.com and actually found the guy. I sent him an
email. At first he thought it was someone pranking him. After 3
emails I told him that if he didn't respond I'd let my son sell it for
the metal content. I sent him the ring. He wrote back that he'd
lived in GA for a while and his home was robbed. That was when
the ring was lost. He was very glad to have his ring back.
He sent my son a $20 reward for being good enough to try to
find the owner and not just keeping the ring.

So, he got his ring back and my son learned a valuable lesson.

    A win-win story.

Yep. Been on full time since the start of the new year.

I've been averaging almost $2 a day in change on the floor. I'll keep the band practice areas in mind. There are 12 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools in the district. I should be able to keep busy for years to come.
