The Patriots worst nightmare

wolfbearwolfbear Posts: 2,759 ✭✭✭

This can and probably will change by then,
but looking at 3 different weather sites, here's the Boston forecast :

1 -
Sunday - WINDY
Partly Cloudy / Wind
High 22°F
Low 9°F

2 -
Sunday
Ugh! Wind chills to -20!
Gusty winds, cold sun, highs in the single digits and low teens.

3 -
Sunday
Wind 20 MPH

Passing would be nearly impossible,
and the Pats can't run against a stong defense like San Diego has.

The Chargers would love it, because New England's only other weakness is stopping the run.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but bring on the perfect storm! image

I agree the Pats are the greatest show on turf, revisited and are extremely prone to bad weather. you could argue they got lucky to miss the snowstorm that hit boston at the end of the weekend. in heavy winds the downfield passing game goes to chit and they'll have to claw for yardage. that being said, the chargers are in horrific shape physically. if they were 100% and weather was terrible, you'd still have to slightly favor the pats for intangibles and home field.

then again, wasn't it like this before? chargers heavy favorites and the pats nothing but guts last year??

and the pats beat the chargers on the road?

personally Id love to see an upset just to get a good superbowl. the pats will shred no matter who comes out of the NFC with good weather conditions.
  • I think Brady could pass in heavy wind, he can lazer that ball when he wants to.
Maroney also started to get back on track last week, so don't discount the Pats running game.

No No No! Let them and everyone else discount our running game AND our inability to play in rough weather! image

  • Brady's completion percentage in seven cold weather cities since November is 68%, or better than every other team in the NFL for 2007

Five wide recievers out of the shotgun means someone will be open short, too

If passing is difficult, seems that would be to the Patriots benefit. San Diego needs to be able to pass the ball with at least some success like Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York and Jacksonville did. To be able to stop the Patriots moving the ball is with an outstanding rush, not winds

Hell, yeah! That was some shredding in good weather when the Pats barely beat the Giants 38-35 a few weeks ago. The Cowboys were suppose to shred the Giants too. image

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

Maroney looked good last week against a good Jags D line. Might this be the Turner v Maroney show?

They've been shutting down the run pretty darn well the last few games.

    Cold is meaningless.

As far as I'm concerned, this year's Pats have the best passing attack in the history of the NFL,

but wind can neutralize even the best of passing attacks. Blow you son of a bichen weather ... blow ... image

  • The Patriots beat the Chargers and Giants in the regular season.

The Packers beat the Chargers and Giants in the regular season.

I think a great Super Bowl matchup would be an 18-0 Patriots team battling a 15-3 Packer team. Tom Brady vs Brett Favre!

Patriots have won their last three Super Bowls by only three points each game.

Last team to beat them in a Super Bowl...........the Green Bay Packers!

Do we really want a battle between Philip and Eli when we still have Tom and Brett around?

you'd better worry about the Pack before you worry about a rematch against the Pats

    'cold weather cities' ?
Id have to see the actual temp AND WIND at the time.

25 MPH crosswinds and bombs to Moss will be much less effective.

he's Brady, not Jesus and still affected by the laws of physics and the fickleless of a gust of weather.

    Worst nightmare?

Waking up the day before the Super Bowl and realizing you have the Yuks high-powered offense, instead of Brady, Moss, and Co?

obviously not a NE fan. Are you saying Tom is affected by the laws of physics? Ha! Watch him pass for 300 yards in a tornado, he can do it.

Seriously, the Patriots will stick with their game plan and execute it. Brady will pass a lot to whomever is open. If not Moss, then Welker or Stallworth or Gaffney or Watson or Vrabel or whomever Brady feels like throwing to, since at least one person will be open every down. Weather may affect the length of attempted passes, but it won't greatly reduce the number of attempted passes.

  • I'm a life long Steeler fan and watched many a games over the years. Saw the great qb's play in their prime. But this Brady doesn't get rattled. He's the best that I've ever seen. I'm also a betting man and 13 and a half is alot of points. I don't care if the wind is blowing 50 mph and it's zero, I'll take Brady over ANYBODY!!! And one more thing, you may have the greatest coach that has ever coached in the NFL. Just give NE the trophy.

As long as the Charger players aren't wearing dresses,

they won't have to worry too much about being roughed up by Randy Moss ... image

The Chargers are a better team if rivers is limited to throwing 20-25 passes.

Well, the real bad wind never materialized.

Congrats to the Patriots and their fans!
Can't blame the refs or the conditions. Just got beat by a better team.

Good luck in the Super Bowl!
