Rice is a marginal HOF in my opinion. One of those guys I don't think should be in, but if he gets in, I've got no problem with it...not like a Bill Mazeroski who is a joke being in the HOF.
Steve
9 time all star with over 300 saves isn't too shabby.
glad goose got in, dint figure anybody else would this time,2 will get in next year if history is any record-prob rice and bert
Not so sure he gets in next year either, it's Rickey's year next year and i can see Rice getting screwed again.
Just to play devils advocate .... Dave Parker is very comparable to Rice. Parker has never got close I don't think.

Secondly, the recent trend of saying someone is a First Ballot HOFer is so much hogwash, to quote a recent sports hero. Either a player is a HOFer or he isn't.
So with that in mind I would like to propose the following radical change to the HOF voting procedure.
One and done.
1. A player can be on the HOF ballot for one year. Make the voters decide if a player is worthy or not. If he is not worthy in the fisr year, what makes him worthy in the 15th year?
2. Eliminate the 10 player maximum that a writer can vote for. Make it unlimited. If 12 players belong in the Hall that year then elect 12, if none belong then elect none.
3. Reduce the waiting period to appear on the ballot from 5 to 3 years. This way the player is still somewhat fresh in the minds of the voters.
4. The player still must appear on 75% of the ballots.
Let's hear your thoughts.

A true HOF'er is fresh in the minds of most 20 years down the line

Very well said.
Always wonder about the vet. com. voting though,
if a guy wasn't good enough 20-30 years ago, and of course he got no additional hits, nor pitched any more shutouts, etc., since then, why should his record now, become changed into one which is hall worthy ??
the original premise, was to consider players who were removed well over 40 years or more, really old-time guys who never were on a regular ballot.
The concept has changed, and now players who were considered unworthy every time on the regular ballots, merely get many more more trys to gain entry with the vet voting.
