Vegas Bet

I've never bet on a sports game and want to for the seahawks/redskins game tomorrow. can someone tell me how to place a Vegas bet? I am in Seattle - is it even legal to do this?

Don't know Washington law, but most places it is not illegal to bet, but it is illegal to take a bet. Everywhere in the US it is illegal to help someone transfer money for the purpose of betting. So you either need to find someone who is operating illegally or know how to launder money

    Lots of people do it

seattle is favored by 3 or 4. Despite living in Seattle I am not a Seattle fan but I think they will cover those points. With how loud that stadium is I think Wasington is going to have a hard time getting plays off.

fly to vegas and make the bet.....I hope you are right. in the preseason I took Seattle to win the NFC and superbowl.....two separate bets....I'll settle for the first one to come true....one never knows.

I think the four point spread winners this week will be:

    Seahawks (fairly easy)
    Steelers (not that easy)
    Bucs (surprisingly easy)
    Chargers (very, very easy)

I like all four road teams this weekend, actually. Steelers are one and done without Parker. They had an easy schedule and played poorly down the stretch--that's the main reason Jax is favored by 2, which is very rare for a road team in the playoffs. I like the points with the other three teams, especially if you can get that hook with the half point at 3.5 with Washington and the Giants.

If you don't even know the number, betting on sports might not be for you

Numbers, smumbers. Bet say $100 and flip a coin on an even money sports wagering prop, win the bet and win $100, lose the bet and lose $110. Giving the book an extra 10% when you lose on an even money bet is exactly why Bodog owner Calvin Ayre is a multi-millionaire...from suckers who think they can make money betting on sports against a bookie.

I say F* the bet, go out and buy yourself some cold beer and snacks and enjoy the game for what it should be...entertainment, and keep your hard-earned money in your bank account where it belongs - it looks better there than in the bank account of Calvin Ayre or some lousy Vegas bookie.

SteveK, don't lie, you know you've already placed that prop bet on the Phils winning the NL East in 2008! image

If you bet bad numbers you're essentially giving the book more than 10% every time you lose. We agree the gambler loses, but someone can bet and lose less than they otherwise would by studying and shopping numbers

You're right. To me though, if my bankroll goes to 0 if I play ten games or 100 games, it still goes to 0 so to me it's just a waste of time and money betting on events which have a negative expectation in the long-run to a bankroll.

We're "genuises" and it feels great to win that game against the spread by 3 touchdowns, but losing that game against the spread by just 1 point is still losing the bet and losing an extra 10%. We could even in theory out handicap the book, although that is very unlikely but a guy like iamthegreatcornholio on here is one of the best football handicappers I have ever seen and I've seen a lot of them. But even if someone did out handicap the book, there's simply too much, WAY too much random events which occur in football such as fumbles, etc., etc., etc, and really in any sporting event to beat the spread in the long-run.

probably good advice but it worked out just fine. If I had lost the bills are paid and we aren't starving and would not have lost any sleep over it. I would have taken them with anything 6 and under. 3 or 4 points - did not matter to me.

thanks. wouldn't call it a bunch but more than I normally make watching a football game. found a local bookie to make the bet, no trip to Vegas.

Go for it again this week. Not that I don't like the Packers team but I believe the Seahawks can beat them. There defense is playing real well now......I also don't see any problem with the Giants against the Cowboys....I know I'll probably be bringing all the "America's Team" believers out after that comment but the Giants looked pretty darn good against Tampa Bay.....again I'm a believer in defense and they are playing well right now.
