Cross Over Results for My Mercs

I have the results but not going to tell you. Look at the Picture below and I will tell later on. Forgot to give the Dates. 17D MS64FB.....18D ANACS MS64.......19S MS64 (Prettiest Coin I Own ).....20S MS64....... Think on the Picture I said all were NGC. Was so shook up that the mind went off into space. 3 NGC 1 ANACS.

Comments

  • The one on the top right. It has toning and PCGS liked it.

    Cameron
  • The ANACS piece crossed because PCGS doesn't feel as threatened as they do by NGC. I can't tell the first thing about the grades from the pics, but that's my guess as to what happened.
  • It says in the picture all four are NGC. No ANACS tonelover.

    Ken:

Let me tell you, unlike your other posts with pictures, I'm surely NOT smiling at this post. 1 out of 4 crossing is definitely not good news.

I'm not at all good with grades, so let me ask a question: Did you ask to cross at the same grade (or better) or did you ask to cross regardless of the grade? If it's the latter, then it's even more unbelievable than if it's the former.

Now, having said that I'm not at all good at grades, from the pictures the one I think the nicest is the bottom center. But, if you forced me to guess which crossed, I'd guess the top center. It's hard to tell from the relatively small picture, but my guess is that the top left didn't make it, the top right was AT'ed (which I think is inaccurate), and the bottom center was deemed cleaned (even though it's not difficult to find similar appearing coins in PCGS holders).

The images are incredibly small, however, I would have to guess the '20-S.

Mark: They were sent in to Cross at Same or Higher. I'm not Gutsey enough to Crack these or Grade at any Grade. So they are all still in Slabs. No reasons given for not crossing other than the obivious, which is they are not up to PCGS standards.image Yea RIGHT !!image 17D is Below
  • The 18D looked nice to me so I'd say that one. I'll bet I'd like the 19S as well if I could see it in person. Thanks for sharing this with us even though you didn't get more to cross.
  • Ken,
I am so disappionted with pcgs, no to cross them. The pics you showed us the other day, there was NO reason for them not to cross! I have never tried to cross a NGC or ANACS coin, but all others I have real good results. Anyway, thank you for your report, it has just made me crack all of my cross overs out, and send them in raw. Well, when I get my results, I too will share them here.

Hey Dennis: Going to have to Bid on the 18S that you are bidding on seems how My Coins are No Good.imageimageReally if I did not know how to Grade Mercs I'd be Crushed, but this I can take with a grain of Salt.image Disappointed but not Really Pi$$ed.image

The '19-S is truly pretty but I am sticking with my initial assesment of the '20-S as the coin that crossed.

I still like the 20-S, but I still don't think it's the one that crossed. I also like the 19-S and I'm generally no fan of toning. I'll guess the 18-D crossed. But it sure would have been interesting to know what the graders were thinking when they looked at each coin and why they thought 3 were "not worthy" of crossing!

I am gonna say the 20-s. It has a great look and no toning for PCGS to worry about.image
  • boiler78boiler78 Posts: 3,060 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dang! I said the 20-s before I got a closer look at the 19-s. I like the 19-s the best but what do I know? I see no reason why 3 out of the four didn't cross.image

Dennis: The 28D you might go after better look as good or better than the one below. Buying all of the NGC Dimes are you going to Join me over in the NGC Registry ? That would be Much Fun also. Reguarding the 18S. I think you are right, they just do not come up. Thats why I had put it on the watching page and then this morning saw that you had a bid in. Jumped up and said "Darn It now I Can't Bid "image. Well Something like that.image The 29S I've been bidding on has went to high for me,so I will wait for another one.image Edited for spelling, still Mildly "ALL SHOOK UP".image EDIT: Dennis: That 28D on eBay looks like a Nice Coin to me. Bet it goes Much Higher price wise. I'm Watching.

I am guessing the 20S, but only because of the toning issues. Otherwise I really like the 19S. I am also watching the 18S and 16S, as they are No Bands coins. Unfortunately, Dragon sold me a set of beautifully toned Franklins yesterday, so I have shot my budget until next month. But I do have 4 more to add to my little No Bands collection soon.

Deep: I have never commented on the No Bands Set. That is one Tuff set to put together in No Bands. POPs are very low on many coins, probably harder to do than a FB set. Just put a 31P NB in my set and the POP is 8 with 2 higher. Take Care: Ken
  • I think I might have screwed myself, by placing such a high bid on the 28D, after refreshing me with the picture of yours, it is no where near as nice as yours.(geeeeezzz)imageimage
At best the one I bid on will go 63 on a good day.
As far as ngc reqistry, not sure on that, but I have thought about it.....
the 29s is a difficult one if you need a FB, but I will be on the look out for one, one of these days, after I reach 100%, I will upgrade that one to FB.

OK Guys; The one that Crossed is the WHITE 20S. When I sent them in it was the one that I thought would not Cross.image This tells Me that PCGS just does not like Toned Coins unless they can have First Stab at them. What a let down for My FIRST EVER PCGS submission.image I'll be a Loyal New Customer though.image "WRONG"image On to some FUN now all Forgotten. ACG I'll get my Grades.image
  • So was the 20-S the ANACS or NGC?
  • FairlanemanFairlaneman Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭✭
The 20S was a NGC coin. Your Pick the 18D was the ANACS coin and I was Positive it would Cross.Nice Strike for the Date and Great Lustre. The 17D is Better than a Dipped 17D in a PCGS MS65FB holder that I saw last week. All I was looking for was Straight Crosses for each coin. After 20 Years of collecting Only Merc Dimes I apparently Know Nothing. Whats going to be interesting is the 2 coins that are headed to PCGS of mine that were Cracked out of Holders.Probably will not see them for a Month. Take Care: Ken

Al: I Really don't think those Boys Pay any Attention to the Striking Character within the Series. They compare all dates to Lets say a 44D.image Hey Dennis: Wind Bag me is at it again.
