Do you also collect the gold commemoratives as well?

It would also be interesting to read why or why not.

Thanks-
HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

  • I started out collecting them but only ended up with a partial set. I sold them to help me upgrade my 50 piece type set to a grade of 65.64. Currently # 14 in the Registry. Hopefully I can upgrade a few more of the coins in 2008. Happy New Year to all!

IMO, the best gold ones worth having are the Pan Pacs. They are beautiful pieces of art. Sadly, like most fine works of art they are WAY outside my budget (and salary, for that matter). I dare not collect any of the others like the Grant for fear of starting down that slippery slope of "having" to collect them all image

  • I have all of the gold commemorative types with the exception of the Pan Pac Round and Octagonal (of course).

I never considered the gold and silver commeratives as part of the same set. The silver I could afford, not so much the gold.

I currently don't collect the gold commems. But it might be a logical extension once I complete the 50 pc silver type set. Of course, as mentioned above the Pan Pac $50s are real stoppers. I will really have to want to complete the set to lay out that kind of cash. At this time I do not have that desire.

No, I have no interest in the gold. IMO, it makes absolutely no difference how nice the design might be it can't overcome the intrinsic ugliness of the gold itself.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I only have the 2 gold commems that I really like and can afford. The Pan Pac dollar and the Jefferson dollar. The others I like are out of my range. If I hit the lottery, the Pan Pac Octagonal $50 will be my first coin purchase!

I have several of them but honestly think that they are way overpriced when you see the relatively high pops for these coins in 65+.
There was some major manipulation of this market a few years ago by a national dealer and the coins have a long way to go to settle back to what I consider reasonable prices for the pops.

Yes and no. Off and on. Your welcome for my input. image . I have a few that I love. The others I'm in no rush to get. I'll bet many half collectors feel the same.

I'm working on both gold and silver commemoratives for lowball sets. It's harder to find circulated gold ones. I'm also work on holed set of both of them. I do have 5 holed gold ones.

I'd love to do the gold. I could do everything but the Pan-Pac slugs. Maybe I could do one of them if I got lucky, but I wouldn't have money for the other (or any money for any other coin.)
