Opinions on risk level on offer on Ebay

I have a Plat set on Ebay right now that I just received an offer on, the buyer has a very low feedback rating (12), and hasn't had any feedback since 2002. Any opinions as to whether this is a risk worth taking by sending a counteroffer?

Thanks
Derek

  • The fact that he made an offer as opposed to just using Buy-It-Now is a good sign. If he were looking to scam you, it wouldn't matter to him if he paid the higher price. The fact that he's looking to save money indicates it's more likely legit...
  • If it were me I would make the counteroffer!

Please enlighten me as to the issues of sending a counter-offer?

If you're thinking this is a ploy to get the coin off eBay by buying it, then never paying, I have to agree with WACoinGuy.
Easier, and faster, to just use the BIN feature, then never pay.

If his offer is for more than $2,150..take it...that's about all there selling for. Just make sure if he pays via PayPal, that he's got a confirmed address.

  • As long as his money is good and it clears your account, why not go for it?

I know I would. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and you've got nothing to lose by sending a couple of emails.

  • Whats wrong with a feedback of 12? If it's 12 positive then it's good. My feedback is 4 and I'm not into thieving.

sounds like everybody is in agreement that it's fine, but the fact that his/her last feedback was 2002 would concern me a bit.

I might tread cautiously with this one.

Biggest risk should be bouncing a check. But then again, they are faking bank checks, USPS money orders, etc these days. And credit cards and even forged checks can be kicked back months after a transaction supposedly clears. On the flip side, he's taking a risk trusting the seller. You are on the far less risky side though.

  • The feedback of 12 isn't worrying me too much, it is the last transaction being in 2002 that bothers me. I know there isn't a lot of personal information on the packing slip, but it makes me worry a little.

I agree, money is money and if he pays immediately I have what I am looking for. I just don't want issues later on.

It's a scam from a hijacked account. Ignore the offer.

  • I think you are right Russ, no reply yes or no at this point.......

If I can't get a taker on this set, I am going to have to decide whether to hang on to it and leave it sealed, open it, or send it back.
