Must be rare or the owner thinks it is.

I'd be hard pressed to get anywhere near that kind of $$$$

With three pieces known, the piece

is almost unique. Very few SCDs are

    to be found in gold.

Wow, that's a bit above meltimage

Marty, have you ever found one of these? This would beat the POP 2 Frankie you hit a few years ago.

I seem to remember one of these selling in Manila about five years ago for something like 20K. Can anyone here recall the specifics? It was in CW or NN, as I recall...

    This is the Iowa specimen.
I told Marty about it about a month ago so that he could start saving up for it. I hope he gets it.

Nice piece but I can think of many other nusmismatic items I would rather buy for that kind of dough. image

Very nice... however, that price would buy a lot of coins or a special 'key' for a series. Cheers, RickO

It is a very rare piece. I would not doubt that it sees $45,000. Would I pay that for it? No. Also keep in mind that for whatever reason, the Wilson Dollars attract the attention of more than exonumia/so-called dollar/medal collectors. There are many that collect Philippine coins and they have great interest in this piece. Most of the copper pieces went into the water and have corrosion. The silver pieces are also rare, but nothing compared to the gold pieces.
  • i really like it. its a very pretty piece and deserving of a loving home. i bet it tops $50000.
