I was going to bid on this, but in the end, it went for a little more than I like to pay for a raw Indian on Ebay with not so great photos. I did like the toning though. Would you have bid on it?

No, never!
Good profit margin. A bottle of MS70 is about $10 and will last for 2-3 years. You can pick up AU58s and low-end BU Indians for $16-$30 . . then a quick roll in the juice and voila' !!!

Also, there's been a lot of talk about using MS70 to tone copper blue which stemmed from a thread posted earlier this month regarding a member's 1916-D BN Lincoln that recently went up for auction. Are we all jumping to the conclusion that coins of this type received a quick MS70 bath before being sent to the graders?
<< <i>I like that toning too ! Are you saying that MS70 imparts "rainbow toning" on copper ? >>
That coin is not 'rainbow toned'. It is purple, pink and blue

That is exactly what they are implying, yet don't have the guts to say it.

The big issue re MS 70 has been the more lucrative market of Blue PF IHCs. Based on the lack of denial from NGC when I asked in an e-mail point blank if they thought Blue PF -- MS 70'd -- IHCs were deemed to be "market acceptable," I can only assume that they are okay with slabbing these coins.
A few people on this forum have stated that some such PF IHCs have also been slabbed by PCGS, but I have not seen any of these coins. Also, no one has indicated to me that he/she has received such a loud non-response from PCGS re the above e-mail I sent NGC, so I do not know what is the PCGS official position in this matter.
Re the offending coin at issue, you are looking at some naco who paid over $100 for a coin which imo is a slider and also has been doctored. It might be worth $20, if that.
Please be aware that you should know what you are buying, or you have no one to blame but yourself. Pink or purple business strike copper almost always means that someone doctored or cleaned the coin. I don't care whether it is holdered or not, I don't want it. It is very easy to spot; it jumps out at you and almost grabs you by the a@@.
Older PF copper is another matter, as it was stored in suflur-laden tissue. But then again, you have to know what to look for re naturally toned PF copper. Shylock posted some excellent pics of what toned PF IHCs should look like awhile back.
