Peace / Morgan Dollars Opinions

I've been visiting this forum for a while and finally got myself registered so I can post. image

I've been collecting for only about a yr now (mainly interested in the platinum series) but as I was visiting the family over the holidays I was telling my aunt about my new found love of coins and she very generously gave me her stash. There were about 50 coins stuffed in envelope consisting of mostly Kennedy half dollars but I did find some goodies. There were a few other decent coins but they were so worn you couldn't even read the dates on them. image

I'm a modern guy and I'm way out of my league here so I was looking for advice as to what you think I should do? Are any of these worth getting slabbed?

Those are pretty cool coins, very nice of her to give them to you!

None are worth getting slabbed, in my opinion.

    Welcome to the forum!

Not a bad group, but nothing that would reap much benefit from slabbing. I think your images are pretty good, wish I could do the same.

    Best of luck!

I agree with the others...a nice group of coins, but none worth the slabbing fee. Now that you have a few examples from classic series, you're sure to be hooked!!

Welcome. Do yourself a big favor and buy a copy of both the Red Book and the Official ANA Grading Standards and it will help you quite a bit.

Welcome to the boards! None of those coins are in a high enough grade or are key dates to be worth the cost of slabbing. However, if you continue to check the forums regularly and enjoy the free advice that is always readily available, you'll be able to make that determination for yourself soon enough!

    Welcome and very nice coins.
I agree to get yourself a Redbook.
I would start putting them in Dansco albums.
It's great to take them out and look through the albums.image

    1st Welcome with open arms

2nd- you little piss ant- did he say he wants to slab them?????

As you can see there are a few here that have not a clue as to what they say- but keep coming back and ask questions from all that HAVE knowledge in what you seek.

and for those that have yet to ascertain knowledge- PLEASE refrain from dumbass comments on getting items slabbed.

    show us your #1 collections...

Welcome! The name "noob" is great - accept for a couple of years down the road, then you are stuck with it. You might want to change it now!

When you call me names and ramble on like a a$$h0le it really turns me off to the whole classics era. Excuse me from asking questions to learn from some of the more knowledgeable people in the numismatic community. The reason why more people choose to collect moderns than classics is because a$$h0les like you.

All I simply asked was for advice/opinions for the few coins I inherited. I never implied they were rare or significant. This forum is for the coin collecting community; if you don't like someone's thread don't post to it.

    To everyone else...

Thank you for your advice/opinions. It is very much appreciated, but I think I'm going to stick with the modern "crap", and avoid the MORGANGOD. What a dick.

A good choice ! Welcome to the world of Plat Lovers.

Everybody loves Platinum - even if they won't admit it in Numis Circles.
  • hey noob. the ones that bash are just in the wrong hobby. i dont think they need to be slabbed, but would look nice in some albums. very much fun is had when I pull mine out. Nice coins though. I like the peace dollar design. Very graceful coin I think. bTW, i AM THE WORST SPELLER HERE SO BE FOREWARNED! welcome aboard and let it roll off your back. this is the Hobby of Kings, sometimes it seems like the Hobby of @$$es though. Your in the right place to meet some awsome people.

  • The reverse of the first 1922 dollar is a variety recognized by both Van Allen and Bowers. The stem end is short and the third foothill is missing etc. Unfortunately there seems to be no interest in the hobby in them.
  • Sometimes slabbing isn't just about verifying value or grade.

My Grandfather gave me a batch of 40's Walkers many years ago.

After he passed, I decided I wanted to slab the best one simply in remembrance of him.

Sure, it was only a 43-S and it only graded MS63, but that wasn't the point.

Today it is framed along with his college graduation portrait, his diploma, and the coin in a shallow shadowbox frame.

It's worth more to me than my 89-CC Morgan. You see, I'd sell the 89, the Walker will never be for sale and will go to my son one day.

Just remember, the advice you get around here, while often invaluable, is still only worth what you paid for it.

Do what you like, collect what you like and preserve what you like. Welcome aboard and have fun. Don't let a few rocky waves swamp you.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."
