<< <i>I was once racing radio controlled cars at my public junior high school with a friend who was the pitcher for our little league team and I asked him who was the hardest player to pitch to and he said "Billy Roberts, he is really good and can hit anything." and my junior high school principal, Mr. Perkins , whos great uncle was also named Mr. Perkins and he delivered mail to people and they used to call him "mailman" I am not sure why they called him that but I think it had something to do with the fact that he delivered letters to them in exchange for income. Billy Roberts walked in and he bet me that his remote control car was signed by Mickey Mantle and I said, I do not think that it is. He said I bet you it is and I can prove it in about 3 minutes and I will bet you my $800 card against your $175 card. I said ok your on. He then just stood there as me and my girlfriend who swore she would never move to michigan with me watched on. He didn't say anything or do anything and three minutes passed by. I said, Billy you have not shown me any proof and he said, I decided your not worth 3 minutes of my time. I then said ok well then give me your card since you lost the bet. He didn't say anything and pretty much just welched on his bet. Mr. Perkins explained to Billy that you cannot just shoot your mouth of and make a bet no matter how hurt your feelings are or how much you don't want to hear what someone is telling you. Billy just hung his head and began to ramble on about some story about mothers and children and such. Mr. Perkins told Billy that sometimes pride gets the better of us and that you have to be a man and pay up on your bets because there is nothing in this world worse than a welch. Billy then said something about it not really being a bet and he was just making a point and kidding around. I will never forget the sound that his hand made when I hit it with the hammer, it was horrible. A few years later after my girlfriend moved away to michigan and my friend was the best pitcher in the state and billy roberts was finishing up his 15th surgurey and years of rehab to learn to use his fingers again, me and Mr. Perkins went to see Billy and boy did he yell when I smashed his hand with that mallet for the second time. Then Mr. Perkins looked at me and gave me the best advice I have ever been given he said, "Son, always be a man and pay your bets." As I walked out of the room he said "Oh yeah, one more thing kid. If you ever tell this story on a message board, be sure to indent your paragraphs. If you don't you will look like a retard." >>
For all I know, the guy may have got them in person. Then again, when I started buying baseball cards I went to a small store in town. I checked my price guide and decided that my best financial gain could be found in a 1988 Donruss Daryl Strawberry. Yes, I actually went in a shop and asked for that single card. I gave like 35 cents and waited to retire from the premium. While there, the guy had 3 x 5 pictures signed by famous baseball players. He wanted $3.50 each. I couldn't believe I could get a Pete Rose signed picture for $3.50 and bought one. Now that I look back on it, I don't know what was worse- me thinking the card of the straw man would explode in value or the card shop owner taking advantage of the trust of a little kid.
If you know it's real, congratulations. However, do the hobby a favor and refrain from selling it until you either share the story or have it checked out. The last thing the hobby needs is more bogus memorabilia on the market.
Keep it coming!!!! I would be a fool to prove that it is authentic right now. The more doubt, the more it appreciates.
I guess that's one school of thought. I think that is what Kenneth Lay told investors about Exxon's future.
I have a picture of George Bush, Osama Bin Laden and Paris Hilton in a hot tub doing jello shots all authographed. If you look closely in the background you can see Brittany Spears and Barry Bonds going at it while reading the Mitchell report. Any interest? I swear its authentic and the more the doubt me the more I will hold my breath and prove to you that it is real.
I wish you had posted this next week. My New Years resolution is to avoid arguments on this board no matter how ridiculous the posts are.

By the way, my NEW New Year resolution is to see if I can get Czar and Win to beef on here! On a TOTALLY unrelated topic... what is each of your positions on Miller Lite?

Once again, the title of my post was "Some of my collection favorites to share" and not "Some of my collection favorites to sell" or "Will you please give me your opinion of if this is real or not?"
For what ever it's worth, being a white guy and being allowed in here, was a hell of alot harder then getting Mickey Mantle's autograph.
I KNOW the overwhelming majority of my autographed stuff is real - I obtained it in person. The rest of the stuff I TRUST is real because of what I know about the seller, the history of the type of item (e.g., Paluso lithos) or the 3rd party authenticator (with a couple exceptions where eBay sellers promised solid 3rd party COAs and didn't deliver).
For those looking for the original Triple Crown Picture here you go... mmnyc pulled the fake Boggs auto from his photobucket site, but I did grab this one in time...

Really? I still see them. Well, just in case...
And here's allen's pack, just to rub it in
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
I will PM you my address so you can get that pack in the mail. I will pay for the shipping and delivery confirmation if you need. I mean you are a man of your word right? Surely your not a Billy Roberts?
<< <i>Allen, I feel bad for Billy, 15 surgeries??? WOW.....Hows he doing now? >>
Funny you should ask, nobody has seen him since he got out the hospital.
Allen, that post is an instant classic. POTD...no. POTM definitely!
Oh and though my opinion was not asked for, I'll offer it anyway. Kind of like my father in-law.
I wouldn't accept a single auto on any of those pieces as legit. The Robinson looks nothing like the one I got IP on my 500 HR bat. The Mantle is awful and looks like someone took a lot of time to "draw" it. The Williams, is close, as is Yaz but I wouldn't expect either to pass. The Mattingly/Boggs/Brett looks pre-printed. I have Mattingly and Brett IP autos that I did get PSA/DNA on and they look quite a bit different than that. Just my .02. Feel free to make change.
The sigs on the triple crown one look damn good. Williams and Yaz are 100% legit, ive seen them both sign in person, i have signatures from the obtained in person. they are def. good. Im not familiar with mantle. but it looks just as good as the other billion signatures he put out there.
I agre the triple crown psoter looks very nice. I had a problem though in my mind with the mantle signature. The M in Mantle looked odd to me. however just a few moments ago Stone was showing a 50's mantle game type card and it had the same exact sig. I was always under the impression that Mickey began that swooping of the M's in the 80's yet there it was on a 50's game card.
