Hypothetical--okay you hit the Plat 10th Anniversary lottery, 70-70, now what?

And how many more sets do you have?

Would you buy more if 70-70 grades materialized?

And I ain't lying this time.

  • i want one. i bought one. its sealed, will stay sealed. then hopefully sell for $3000+. put it into my lincolns. if not and its a bust. keep it as a nice plat. set.

"Hopefully" is the key word there. I think you'll be lucky to get $2250.

Have they even sold out yet?

Clarification: PCGS 70-70, which hopefully would do better than the NGC'S are now doing on ebay "ALREADY"!!

Just wait until next week ... eBay will be flooded with both PCGS & NGC 70's......

  • if the graded ones sell for alot ill slab them. I WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE FIRST STRIKE's though. i think theyre a joke with out a punch line. Explains some dealers Bentlys.

First strikes should be boycotted and the coins removed and reholdered. what a joke.

    Only MY opinion though...
  • Personally I think the odds of submiting one set and having it grade a perfect 70/70 are probably not very good given the Proof only has about a 15% 70 ratio. So the more sets you send in the better your overall odds will be.

I wouldn't even hesitate in selling....especially if there were none already out there....
That said, my set, and that of a friend, hit the mail today and are already sold. image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Agreed. I have sent in two sets, one mine, one my father's. I have a third that I will hold until I see what happens. I think you have a good point about the regular proof and that is what makes selling a 70/70 set if you only have a few sets so dicey. Unless of course you get them all graded and then even Captain obvious would know what to do!

If you are lucky enough to get a perfect 70/70 set, you could probably sell it and then buy more sets with the profit since I don't think raw sets will bring much of a premium until the First StrikeSM deadline is close. By then we should have a good idea of how well the Reverse Proof is grading.

  • I had my one set ready to send off for grading and got cold feet. Chances are it would come back 69/69, and these sets will probably sell below cost very soon. Dealers who are able to send in multiple sets will get a few 70s, then dump the 69s. There will be a ton of 69 sets and a ton of sealed sets. Why buy a 69 when a sealed set still gives hope? If I got a 70 set, I would probably sell it and buy another set that I would keep. Im just sitting on my sealed box now, deciding whether grade it, sell it or return it.

what is this 69/69 70-70 talk?

pcgs now gives a grade to both the obv and the rev on the slab?

as in 70 obv and a 70 rev?

i must be missing something. any clarification is welcome.

There are two coins in the set. A Proof and a Reverse Proof. A 70/70 set would be a 70 on both coins.

I would sell so I could buy something I would actually want to own. (which is why I have never had any intention of buying them in the first place)

  • I would expect the number of PCGS First StrikeSM - 10th anniversary sets 70/70 sets for sale will be very few compared to the 69/69 and 69/70 sets. At least initially the few perfect 70 sets for sale will bring much more than the other sets since those willing to pay a big premium will want the best.

Sell it ASAP and if you really want one later you should be able to buy it for less. Personally I'd sell it and buy one of the many very nice 69 sets that will be available.

That's what I'd do. Sell the 70's and buy a 69 set with the profit and tuck them away.
