$1500 worth of machine wrapped halves...

OK, I used to work at a credit union so have a lot of friends that will still do me little favors (like order rolls of coin without charging me for them). On a lark, and since my kids are out of school and driving me nuts), I ordered 3 boxes ($1500) of half dollars to go through with the kids (they are each trying to complete a full AU or better set and I, of course, look for the silver). So just to make a holiday week go by a little quicker - what are some guesses as to the number and types of silver halves I am going to find...

Let the guessing begin!!!!

I guess it's the fun of the hunt and doing it with the kids that counts! Who cares if they find nothing?
That is several hours of family values!

  • 3 90% and 9 40%.

But it's a crapshoot. Sometimes you hit a huge silver streak and pull out solid rolls of pre-'65s, and other times you pull straight rolls of crap.

Last year or so. 2 boxes of $500 worth.
    One box...ENTIRELY 2001D
The other box... 90% ENTIRELY 2001D The 2 rolls that weren't had a grand total of 3 coins that weren't 2001D image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I have had decent success with boxes.
    2 times I found only 1 (40%, 90$)
    I have found 10 90% and 32 40% in 7 boxes
    Average of 6 per box.

    My guess will be

    4 90%
    14 40%

    I hope you do better.

None, your kids ran off with them and put them in the slot machine and got this paper receipt back while you were sleeping. Kids drive you crazy, they went crazy!!

You could have them check for this also, but from what I understand most are in mint sets.

I've found one in a bank roll. It was a beat up VF, but still the 74-D DDO.

I have had mixed results. $500 boxes that contained as many as 20 40% and 2 or 3 90% and some with none.

Good luck to you and your kids.

  • Hey zoocrew? How much silver did you pump out of that $1500.00? We need the answer. There is big money riding on it. Have a Happy New Year too.

  • ok went through the first box and only found one thing of interest - but it may be HUGE. There were no silver coins from 1964-69, but I found what looks like a silver 1971 "D" half. There is no core and it has the same look as the other 40% silver coins. I am going to get a weight on it tomorrow and will post results. I am also going through the second box tonight and will update results. As an aside, I have never had less than $5 in silver per box average from the credit union. This was the first time I had been totally skunked from a box (unless that '71 turns out to be real) and I have gone through about 2 dozen boxes so far.
