Home Metal Detecting

What to do?

I have a White's 5900 Di model from the mid-80's. I've used it for years and have had much enjoyment out of it. Last time I took it out the needle didn't function anymore. However, it seems to still beep OK. I packed it up and put it away thinking it was "toast".

My questions are: (1) Is this thing worth repairing, (2) Do people even fix these things anymore, or (3) trash it and buy a new one.

I really don't know what to do.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I know many people who use the 5900 Di exclusively, solid performing detector. I say send it to White's. They'll fix it.

If you are happy with it.. have White's repair it.... If you wish to step up in technology.. get a DFX... the cadillac of detectors. It does have a learning curve.. but well worth the effort. A great site is www.dfxonly.com - super people, very knowledgeable and helpful. Cheers, RickO
