Santa Claus brought me some socks and new undies and a new shirt and a bottle of cologne.
(Mind you, I ain't complainin'- needed all of the above. Now my feet are comfy, my drawers ain't so drafty, and I smell better.)

It's cool if you have the money to burn. I will disagree about the "savings plan" idea though.
You have held the washington for probably 7-8 months, right? $1000. It is worth $1000 (not going to go into value of $1000 then versus $1000 now for the sake of discussion).
If you had gotten a 5% 9 month CD, you would have almost $40 more... $1040.
Unless they are smooth edges, or high grade, then it isn't worth slabbing (which eats into cost), so, you "lose" ~$50/yr by just having them sitting (per $1000 box).
Not saying it isn't smart to have some cash onhand for emergencies, even forsaking the interest, but doing it by storing $1000 boxes of generic presidential dollars isn't the way I would go about it.
Now, if you don't consider it a "savings plan", then I say go for it if you like that....
