How often does this happen?

While I was at my local "dumping bank" the other day, getting cash for some half-dollar boxes, I got in line right behind a woman bringing back in one of the boxes I had searched previously. Needless to say, we ended up striking up a conversation not long afterwards.

Not really; the boxes hardly fulfilled my optimistic expectations. In the nine boxes I looked through I just found a handful of proofs, a number of non-circulating coins (1 X 1987-D, many post-2001s), and a total of 24 silver ones (23X 40%, 1X 90%; 14 in one really good box, 7 from a box that came from a casino, and three from three other boxes)

    Happy Holidays to you too.

I thought the rule was to never buy at the bank where you dumped your searched boxes off at.....

    And, only search sealed boxes.

    Well thats my rule.

Did she explain what she was doing by chance?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

I wasn't buying anything there, just getting rid of bank boxes I already went through that I acquired from a different bank. She thought she'd find something of interest in the two boxes I had brought in previously, and apparently purchased both of them a few days before. As she told me, she tried one, got nothing, and decided to opt out of looking through the second. I don't know why she was bringing them back to the same bank that they came from (they weren't too happy about taking in four boxes of half-dollars at the same time). Being a middle-aged retiree with nothing better to do, she explained that she hunts for good coins at the various banks around town.

I bet she could teach you a lot (about collecting) if she is 40 years older!
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!

Yes, she sure seemed to be up to par in her knowledge of our coinage-- and bills, too. She was actually a very interesting person to talk to.
