  • Thank you Secret Santa,

I received five PSA 10 Steve Youngs, none of which I had graded and one I did not even own...which isn't really that easy of a task, and a small stack of Steve Young and Marcus Allen cards.

1996 Pro Line Intense #71 PSA 10. I really liked these cards when they came out.

    image

1998 Bowman #115 PSA 10. This is a cheap PSA 9 on eBay I have been telling myself not to buy....good self.

    image

    image

1998 Finest #70 PSA 10. I have been somewhat working on the 1990's Finest sets so this one is triple cool for the registry.

    image

1996 Collectors Choice Update #Y12 PSA 10. I thought this game was cool....never could get any of my friends to play it though.

    image

1996 Topps Joe Namath and Steve Young PSA 10. I really don't know what this card is or where it came from. It appears to have a Topps Chrome finish, but I could not find it in my

I would make a group scan of the ~30 raw cards (which are appreciated), but members of the family are now waiting on me so I must run off.

Thanks again to LLM for organzing this and thank you Secret Santa for going well above what you need to do.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • I received some awesome Yaz's for my registry set. Scans are not great. 4 PSA 8's and the 83 is a 9. Thank you very much secret santa.

Santa knew I'm a Mets fan and sent me a 1969 program (very cool) a 1970 Ron Swaboda PSA 8 and a 1971 Mets team PSA 7 (equally cool).
    Thanks Santa.

We're getting ready for Xmas eve, so no time for scans.

    This was a great idea.

    Happiest of holidays to everyone.

Thanks santa image A few of these are definite crackout canidates.

I also received a bunch of nice raw stuff. Thanks again image

  • Nice cards. Yaz is my all time favorite non-Dodger player. I met him way back in the late 70's at Anaheim stadium and was a fan ever since (he was the nicest ball player that actually spoke to me and gave me some auto's) before a game.

I think the only sentiment that I can come up with right now is...WOW! My Santa was FAR too generous this year. With every piece of the package that I opened, it was more and more exciting. Thanks Santa!!

My Secret Santa got me a 1983 and 1985 Topps glossy send-in sets (now I just need 1984, 1986, 1990), along with 1994 Flair Hot Numbers and Outfield Power insert sets (just three more insert sets and regular set to go!). They may not be the most glamorous sets (though to be fair the Hot Numbers was a one per box insert; they were just overshadowed by the Hot Gloves that year), but they were sets I needed and it's great to get a few things crossed off your wishlist! image

I'm back at my parent's house out of town for the holidays, so I don't have access to my scanner, but I got a nice 1985 Topps Ozzie Newsome PSA 10 !!! and that isn't so easy with the black borders. It really was a perfect gift as I am a huge University of Alabama fan, love the 85 Topps cards, and HOF'ers.

Thank you secret santa, you rock.

I hope everyone is having an amazing holiday, mine has been better than I could have imagined with a surprise visit from my significant other. She and I were opening a gift or two and I opened my Secret Santa gift. I don't have a scanner handy, but I'll edit this post when I can with scans.

I received a GAI certified Pete Rose auto'd 8x10 and an '88 P&L Cape Cod Thomas in PSA 9 (has strong bump potential I might add). Santa was spot on with my collecting interests as I was very vague with my wants list other than listing that I am a Rose and Thomas player collector. It just so happens than autos and and Thomas rookies/minor league cards are my personal favorites. Great job and many thanks Secret Santa!

I have to admit that when this was being put together I thought it was a trainwreck waiting to happen, but I want to retract that and say that this looks so far to be a giant success. Matt has done an incredible job (with help from Tonya im sure) with the organizing, and the generosity of the participants seems to be extremely high. For guys like me that did not participate, it is a great story and a wonderful read. Keep it coming.

I will echo nam's sentiments- this one actually looks like fun with quality stuff going back and forth. I didn't want to take part because I figured I'd send out good stuff and get an OC 1984 Topps Cal Ripken with a bad corner in return.

And some more goodies to add to my defects collection.

For the life of me I really don't know who sent them as I didn't recognize the address on the bubble mailer but think it was from samsgirl214.

So whoever it was I thank you from the bottom of my heart as this brightened up my day during what has been one of the most stressful holiday seasons yet.

  • Even though I didn't participate in this either, I must say I enjoy seeing the nice gifts and generosity being displayed here. It is very refreshing to see something positive now. Lately, all I've seen on these boards is very negative threads and board member bashing. Keep the scans coming guys, it's great!

    Merry Christmas to all!!

  • My secret Santa did an outstanding job!

Here's a Frankie Albert for my 1950 Bowman football set -- I've been trying to get this one for a long time. With this card, I'm down to 7 cards out of 144 to get to 100%!
    image

Here's a great raw Charley Conerly from 1951 Bowman. I am a fan of his, and I'm working on his master set. This one probably grades out at EXMT, but has a chance at NM.
    image

Lastly, I received this one. I have seen a few of these, but know very little about them. I think it is a 1933 Diamond matchbook. It is Daniel Fortmann for the Chicago "Bears". This is a cool item. I really like vintage football, and this fits in very well in my collection.

Thank you very much, Santa -- This is a generous gift. I'm pleased with every item, and you obviously looked carefully to find things that I'm interested in!

    Doug-
I am glad you like your gifts. I wasn't totally sure about the Albert and Conerly...but I figured you wouldn't have the Fortmann matchbook.

You're welcome John. I ended up with three raw Dell Abramowiczs, but each one had a fold line, and thus didn't get sent. Couldn't bring myself to send you something that bothered me. BTW You have one of the best registry collections on PSA which made it hell in finding you stuff that would help out.

I am having trouble with my scanner, but I received:

    1984 Fleer Don Mattingly--raw

1978 Topps Ron Guidry PSA 9
1978 Topps Cliff Johnson PSA 9
1978 Topps A.L. Championships Yankees Rally to Defeat Royals PSA 9

I always wanted the Mattingly Fleer rookie--never owned one as surprising as it may sound and I didn't mind if it was raw or graded. The graded cards all have that Yankee theme, so my Secret Santa was obviously taking care to guess what I would like.

Thank you Secret Santa from New York! I appreciate you looked at my list with care!

Sorry for the lack of pictures but I wanted to post here before my wife drags me out to the stores. My Santa went above and beyond this year! I recieved a box FULL of unopened 1972 Historic Battles packs! I thought I had the coolest item of the season but there was more. Inside was a pack of Topps gum from 1948! It is an awesome item from Topps history. And last but certanly not least I recieved a card made by Knuckles of Christy Mathewson! It contains a repli-autograph and is an amazing piece of art. I know this is a "secret" santa thread but Jery (Roastedcat) did an awesom job. All gifts were tied together by a personalized well written letter explaining the story behind each gift. I wish I would have thought to do something like that. Next year I will!!

So many cool gifts... I am impressed with the thought that clearly went into many of these gifts and, as always, I am amazed by the generosity displayed on here year round. This really is a great community, despite some scamps sullying it from time to time. Hopefully Carol does not bust me for circumvention since I was specifically thinking of Gary and "scamp" is not nearly strong enough of a word. Hope everyone, other than Gary, is having a great holiday season!
