Young newbie needs advice

Hello all,
Great wisdom on these boards.

My 7 yr. old wants to start a silver quarter collection 1932-1964. His attempt will be to try to obtain all of the common
dates in uncirculated condition/BU at just over the cost of silver ($3 per coin), and then wait and be patient and try to obtain
the best condition that he can afford for the semi-keys. He will probably wait to obtain the keys as gifts from grandpa.

Any advice for him as he combs through E-bay, carefully choosing nice coins at just over the cost of silver?
Or does anyone have some uncirculated roll coins they would be willing to part for a 7 yr. old budget??

PM me your mailing addy and I'll send you a 1963d and 1964d in uncirculated condition. The 1963 needs an acetone bath though, but is in excellent shape.

Ask your local coin shop. They usually have a bazillion of common date Washingtons near melt. They might have some nice semi-keys around that price too! Ask to look at the junk 90% pile. There might be some goodies in there too.

I think obtaining the commons in BU is a mistake. Very few things are as pleasing to the eye than a WELL MATCHED set of coins. Having a bunch of uncs next to a few VG's wont be very pretty. I might suggest a different approach. I would guide him to buy the commons in VF-EF grade with very original surfaces, and perhaps even splashes of mild toning. Then when you buy the keys in the same grade, they will match.
