I bought my lunch at work with them yesterday and today. Everyone seems to take them in stride.

    No funny stories.
I try to keep some in my truck and use them when I go to fast food or for tolls through a shortcut (side note: I hate how a public park has one of its exits tolled just because people use it as a side route and they knew they could get money for it....we already pay with our taxes).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I've spent over $200 over the past year. Got one back (from a guy I earlier gave several too) otherwise none in change
  • I carried a handful of them into the local coin shop about a month ago, and the coin dealer's wife, Christine, was overjoyed that I was using the coins. She gave me a 10% discount for paying partly with the handful of Washies I had!

No stories other than the vending machines where I work gives them out in change when you use a $5 bill.

The few time I have gone looking, the banks around here haven't had any.

I still get odd looks and occasionally utter confusion when I use half dollars when I stop at McDonalds for coffee.

I used a grand total of about 10 of them, and never received one in change yet.

I keep a part of the ones I get from roll searching and use them to buy lunch, groceries, etc. Clerks accept them, some look enthusiastic to have received them and I see them reaching for their wallet to change them out from the till after I explain what they are. I have had a few 'ask the manager' if they take them. I have never received any in change though.

I get them all the time at the base dining facility. It seems a US House of Representative sent a letter to the Air Force asking to write down how many of the coins would be used by the military, so the military decided to use them for change in the dining facilities. Now, I get all my rolls of these things that way.

When I used to get the $1000 boxes, I would give them as tips at the dinner where I eat lunch daily. One waitress gives them to her kids who colllects them. I mainly give them as tips.
  • My Pocket Piece for the Better Part of 2007. Early on I concluded that I would never see wear on one of these since they didn't circulate so...

I usally put five in my pocket each day on the way out of the house to work. They buy coffe&rolls and soda's and make nice tips when out and about. Have put about $500.00 into circulation since they first came out.

Interesting that the lady on the roach coach asked if I had any extra last Friday. She wanted then for some stockings on here list. Luckly I had put extra in my pocket that morning and was able to trade her ten for some rag bucks.

That reminds me, I need to go get some rolls of the Madison's.

I'm on my second roll. I use them to tip the drink waitresses in the casinos and also use them to buy roasted peanuts from street vendors in NYC.
  • i've used about 300 or so. i've only gotten around 20-25 in change though.

I use them to pay the toll on the skyway bridge, fast food drive thru's, and gas stations. Most have no reaction but one time the drive through guy at a Wendy's said they weren't going to make it into the cash register, he was keeping them. My 15 year old reluctantly will use them to pay for his school lunch occasionally but says he is embarrassed to use them. Go figure. I spent quite a few Madisons that were cut out from mint sets before the official release date of the circulating coin, and no comments there either. Never received a one back from anyone.

Never got one in change though.

I've been buying the US Mint Rolls, don't ask me why..I must like the special wrapper, along with bank rolls whenever they come out. I use the bank rolls for $2 or less purchases. At first the clerks would look at me funny, but now everyone accepts them w/o questions. I have never received one back in change though.

  • I tried to buy a $33 item with them at Sharper Image. They flatout refused to accept them.

i got a couple in change from the stamp machine at the post office the other day - one washie and one adams, along with a sackie - adams had "weak" edge lettering, only the top half of the letters was impressed in, i suppose i should list it on the bay as a "rare error," huh?

anyway, we needed a marker for a game we were playing later in the day so i pulled out the washie - no one had seen one, and a few people were skeptical as to whether it was even "real."

I've at least not had any problems with anyone accepting them.

Tried to get a roll of Jeffersons from my Bank a while back. The ignorant Teller Lady acted as if I was asking for real Gold or something - anyway she wouldn't let me have any. image

I've since lost interest in obtaining the stupid things.

I think I'm going to go close out my account at that Bank soon ( PNC Bank ).

I got one roll at the bank the day the Washington dollars came out. It is still around here unopened if I can ever find it again.

I have not received a single prez dollar in change to date.

I actually spend half dollars more than these things.

When I do spend them, no one bats an eye.

I receive them as change from the LIRR or Penn Station vending machines and of course the post office vending machine.

Have yet to get one back in change from a store.

  • Gave one to a clerk at a party store to pay for a candy bar and his reaction was a rather disappointing "Oh, one of those" the tone
of his voice seemed to suggest he considered them a nuisance to deal with.

I used a few at a store and the clerk was confused.. said "What are these?" I said they are dollars... she looked at both sides of several coins and finally said.. "Are these those new coins I saw on TV?"... I confirmed it and she took them.. said she would save them for herself. Cheers, RickO
