I am interested in diversifying my collection this year. I have been too narrowly focused on Tony Perez cards and would like to expand to other Player collections and move some of my Perez cards to finance the other player collections. I have recently started basic sets of Tony Oliva, Dave Concepcion, George Foster and Johnny Bench and would like to complete those basic sets this year.

  • Actually, I have to complete my 57 BB registry set (#30, 98%). I have probably 150 + cards that are pre 68 that I will get graded. I was at one time interested in completing sets from 55 through 61, but lost interest. Now I am on to something else - for Xmas, my wife "approved" for me to get the nicest pair of 20's era shin guards to be found. Vintage catchers' equipment has caught my former card collecting eye and I am branching off into getting complete gear to go with the shin guards. I intend to have a custom display case crafted to showcase what a 1920's catcher used to play the game. You have to be careful and discriminating with equipment, but it has given me a new interest in the hobby. It is the thrill of the hunt for '08!! Merry Christmas.

  • Sell off my entire collection during 2008, due to money problems, which are due to life and health issues. Maybe keep a couple of sets for the heck of it. Sorry, I guess that's a downer for xmas. Hope everyone reaches their goals!
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • Here's a pic of the 20's shin guards - now to find the rest.. The chest protector seems to be the most challenging.

Very interesting. I've heard of baseball glove collections, and of course bats and balls, but not much in equipment collecting. Cool. Good luck with it.

Sorry about the health issues Kingraider.

I plan on making a really nice "make a list of all my collecting goals" for Jan 1st and then we'd each list ours and see how much we get crossed off before 2008 is up. Here's some highlights though:

(all are baseball unless otherwise stated and all are complete raw sets)
    * Extend my current 1976-2004 Topps set run up to present. I also want 1974 and 1975 sets but I'm saving those for last.
    * Exend my current 1983-91 Topps football set run up to at least 1980-1999
    * Complete my Donruss and Score set runs (I only like the 1996-98 sets for each)
    * Finish my 1993-97 Finest collection (all Finest baseball sets for those years NOT counting refractors), especially the 1997 Finest silver set
    * Complete my Fleer/Ultra/Flair complete insert sets run up to at least 1995 (and the 1994 and 1995 Flair sets too)
    * Get the 1984, 1986, 1990 Topps send-in sets to finish all the send-in/All-Star/Rookies glossy sets
    * Finish 1981-95 Topps Traded run (I only need 1982, 1994, 1995)
    * Collect the 1996-2000 Mantle/Mays/Clemente/Ryan/Aaron Finest reprint sets

Get back on top in the 1963 Post Baseball and move up to #3 McGwire Master set.

I would also like to start the 1973 topps baseball set in PSA 9 & 10....

    Dave

Edit: I forgot to mention completing my 1957 and 1961 Raw sets....

    End of Year Update:
Still #2 on the 1963 Post Cereal Baseball, however my set has improved alot
I am now #3 in the McGwire Master set.
Never touched the 1973 set, probably never will
Completed 1961 Raw, no progress on the 1957

Continue my run of raw football sets from 70-86 (Currently finishing the 86, 82 and 73)
Add to my 1969 graded football psa 7 or better
Add to my 1966 Philadelphia raw set
Just started a 1960 psa 7 baseball set
    Add a few new t206

That should just about do it.
