Just save up and buy a car or truck image

Man buys truck for saved change

I like how he got escorted there by the sheriff's office and how the dealership had an armored car and counter come there "no bank wants to take them" image

"As long as you don't put your hands back in the till, it really adds up," he said.

Says he's been collecting this batch of change about 13 years. How many 95 DDO's do you think were in there?
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

So he is saving close to $2,000 in change per year? I have been putting change away for the last five months and have about $32.00! How does he do it?

"No bank wants to take them"

Imagine if they were silver and gold coins? All banks would be falling all over them.

I had a few drawers full of change and over the last year or two started spending them in vending machines at work.

It takes too much space and does not earn interest. image

Now just image all of that change earning 5% interest while saving it.

I get between ~$1-$2+/day in change.
I put it in my pocket and usually use bills since they are quicker (or dollar coins image ).
I cash it in a few times/year and put it in my son's account.

His savings account earns ~1/2%, not 5% (of course, when it adds up to $1000 or more, I buy him CDs to rotate around and that is usually close to 5% image ).

Trying to save him, minimum, $100/mo he is alive. So far, more than on target (thanks to a lot of change image ) and also already have a GET for him with 1+ years of college paid for.

Change can be good if used right....this guy is doing it right as well. If he doesn't buy a new car more than once per 13 years or so (or more), and doesn't lease, he is being smart.

Amazing ... but he would have had it sooner if he banked it ... interest would have helped him considerably. Cheers, RickO

I stash dimes away. Why I don't know. I think because they are so small so I have a few pickle jars filled with the things.

I try to get rid of change as quickly as I get it. Getting rid of pennies really hits the spot image

I go through a lot of Sacs and I like to spend those. People really light up when they get them as most people have never seen one. image

I use change very sparsely as I like to look at it when I get home but also like to use it for my son (teaches him counting, denominations, etc...and builds up his account little by little....not enough to buy a truck though image )
