Which coin brings more money?

A 1906 Barber half with solid AU58 details, but hairlined, or the same coin in a PCGS AU53 with no problems?

  • Tough call. Each coin in that scenario would have its own merits. The luster on a 58 should be much better.

Is the 58 raw or slabbed? If slabbed, by who? Does it have a "sticker"?
  • Lets say the 58 is raw, exhibits tremendous luster, but liberty's face and neck shows obvious evidence of cleaning.

Under those circumstances the PCGS 53 sells for more money than a raw, cleaned and lusterous 58 999 times out of 1000. Of course, assuming it's the same exact date, variety, die state, rarity, etc...
  • So if I have the raw 58 and walk around for a month or 2 with it in my pocket, will it wear to a 53 with the hairlines no longer visible?
  • Nobody knows the answer to this?
