What amazes me in Europe, at hotels they often want your passport to check in. Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, and others. Not only do they want to see it, they often want to hold it for you through your stay. If you ask for it back they almost always want it for several minutes.
And yes, this thread is SPAM.
I'm not sure if I'm OT given the OP.

I used to travel to Russia frequently. It freaked me out that the hotel would hold on to your passport for a few hours after you checked in to "register you with the police department".

I would love to get this but, none of the DC airports are available, so I will not join, just yet.
As for you, Michael. George W. knows where you are 24/7. He has a special chip in your cell phone. You are just too valuable to be out of range.
Happy Holidays to all!!!!!!!!!
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Beats sitting in toll lines, especially around NYC. They can track you by the license plate camera anyway, so what's the difference?

Ooooooo........yummo stuff (when either everything else tastes like crud or there is no food in the cabinets or the fridge)!

You doing that to get to FUN? Do you pick up hitchhikers?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It is also the law in Italy. You also have to have ID on you at all times. We are not far behind, I fear....
I also agree that Las Vegas McCarran, LAX and Washington Dulles really need to get with a registered traveller clearance program, but I do not believe that any of those three airports plan on doing so any time in the near future.
There are some countries that hold your passport for several days, so a few hours isn't too bad, actually.
