Ebay returns on bullion

Just wondering if any of you sell bullion on ebay, and if so, do you accept returns? I personally do not. Because of the volitale nature of the animal, I dont want somebody specualting on my dime. If for instance I sell a 5 ounce gold bar, and gold falls by $40/oz 6 days later, I dont want the buyer to expect a full refund at the original cost.

Agree. And why should you? Nobody in the business will accept returns on bullion for full refund.

Another thing, never accept Paypal. They always side with the buyer.

  • But just to play devil's advocate for a second. Lets say you sell a rare 3 ounce hand poured Engelhard silver bar on the bay for, lets say, $70. Now, melt on that piece is just around $40. What if that buyer contacted you 3 days later with buyer's remorse and asked for a refund, or he would ding ya. Now what would you do?

in your second situation you need to clearly state your policy in this
special auction for a rare bullion item.

if you expect it to sell for more then bullion every time why not offer
a return policy? condition could play a huge role and if you cannot
take great pics it may come back to you due to a problem with it?

my two cents. interesting post. thanks for sharing.
  • I used to sell bullion, and my auctions stated clearly that I would not accept returns, and the reason why.

I don't sell "bullion" as bullion on ebay, but if I did, i would only accept returns if the price went up enough to make it worth it image
(I agree that it needs to be clearly stated)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I would take the return, just minus the differance in spot...

Clearly stating your return policy in the auction is the key...

PayPal is another story, the 3% and risk is very high...

Many generic $5's, $10's, $20's in the pre-1933 period are essentially bullion. This same problem applies to them as well.
I'm sure many buyers will return for example MS62 saints for example if the price of gold falls $30 by the time they get their coin.

On the flip side, if gold went up $50 by the time you receive the buyer's check would you be tempted to say there was a mistake and the coin was no longer available? image I'm sure that has happened as well on ebay.

  • Just go to APMEX, and ask them about there return/PayPal use policy. And do the same!
