Anyone else have a Color Laser printer and enjoy printing out nice toned coin pictures?

We recently decided to upgrade our printer and get a color laserjet. Something to do the holiday letters on and also to be networked at home.
Got a good deal on the HP LJ 2605DN and have been playing with it.

Printed out some coin pictures, on regular paper, that I had of toned coins. I had also printed some of these out on our Epson inkjet previously.

Let me tell you that the laserjet is AWESOME!

My son took the large dime sample I did and put it in his room on his wall. He liked it that much. The clarity and intense color was great!

I never expected a new cointoy to be a printer image

I can't wait to find the right image to use photo paper on (I do have some imaging projects I want to print out...maybe when I get time over the holidays).....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Yup, I printed out a full page of the collage image in this thread on glossy photo paper and it looks incredible.

Would be great if one could just take geat and accurate photos of the toned coins to begin with. I use a color inkjet with Kodak paper to print hi-res scans of certain coins used in lectures/talks or sent to with coins to some customers here and there. Will be doing a lot more of this and with really decent photos in the near future for another project. The merits of a color laser will certainly be evaluated.

Cool.....but lookout for the crazy-high ink refill costs, that's where they get you!

...I straight photocopied some at a local Kinkos on a nice color copier and was quite impressed with the results.

Sounds like a good idea to make into a book, to take to coin shows, when looking to fill holes, so that you do not have to carry the actual coins themselves.

I may do this for my 7070 type set, that way you can try to get a matched set, and if you get robbed, you can just re-print the pages, instead of lose your coins. LOL

    Some good ideas!
I had thought of printing out to send to customers if I sell any toned coins...also thought of the 7070.....I like the ideas (hadn't thought of taking the photos to shows with me though).

Beware of printing costs with some color lasers. I had an HP 1500, and when it was time for new toner (and a new drum), it was more expensive than the purchase price of the printer.

Oh, I am quite aware of costs of printing with any color printer. Laser/inkjet, it doesn't matter. There is a cost there.
Also, new, in the box, printers have limited toner. That is something else to know.

Doesn't matter though...if someone has a toy and wants to play with it, and they know the cost, then go for it image

btw....toner "accuracy" is measured by ~5% coverage per page (page = 8.5" x 11"). That 5% is considered how much an average page of text takes up. Printing graphics takes quite a bit more image

Hey you do not need a color printer really, just load them on a picture card take them to a store and print them out like regular digital pics. As long as your doing small ones, like to carry to a show you can print out digi pics for around .20 cents a piece or so.

Now if you want big posters, that is another story.

And if you are looking for a way to show off a collection without having to actually carry the coins around, Photoworks.com and Shutterfly.com both offer nice photobooks that usually run around $30 to have made. The books are hardcover, approximately 12 X 8. and you get 10 2-sided pages to fill (you can add more for an additional cost). You can feature one coin per page or up to 12 is you wish to use smaller images. The quality is pretty good and they really are pretty cool. I have had several made using family photos and am quite pleased with the results. I have thought about having one made using currency images for showing off....hadn't even considered a book with coin AND currency photos until just now.

We just got a new Oki C5500n color laser - incredible pictures! And 20 pages per minute in color! This beats the HPs hands down. If you can still return yours, do it and get this one. There is a $200 rebate going on right now too which makes the final price $399!

After looking at the costs, we just take the memory chip to the most convenient Walgreens, CVS, Costco, Target, WalMart, etc. and print them out for a fraction of the cost of an home office setup.
  • I have a Konica Minolta, Magicolor 2400w, laser printer. The price of the printer was about 400 bucks, there are 4 different toner cartriges, Black, Blue, Yellow, & Red. The toner costs about 80 bucks each, seems expensive until you look back at your receipts. I've only had to buy 1 round of toner (80x4=320) once in 3 years......

It prints a great looking photo, the problem is, the photo is not exactly the same as my computer screen. It drives me crazy.

If you want to save some money, just save your image on a CD rom or any flash memory device, and take it to photo printing maching. I've seen them in Staples, CVS Pharmacy, walmart, even some camera stores....This way you only have to pay for printing.
