Let's say there's a coin on eBay - BOUGHT THE COIN

That has a BIN of $100. You really want it. The bidding has hit $85 with 3 hours left to go. You're the winning bidder at the moment with 12 cents to spare. You know you're going to get sniped.

Would you just spend the $100? The coin routinely sells for about that in Teletrade and other ebay auctions and in fact fetches more, not much more but more.

I'll tell you what it is once I decide. It's one of those coins that would inspire a "You idiot it's bullion" or "That's an awesome piece of memorabilia".

All right I bought the second coin the seller was offering. It's a Lance Armstrong autographed PCGS Eagle. I know there is zero special about the coin but I didn't even know there were Lance signed Eagles and I have a complete Silver Eagle Collection. Personally I don't consider it a must have for my Eagle collection, but I love cycling, I think Lance is an American Hero, and I love Silver Eagles.

  • And let me add that in those 3 remaining hours you have to go to work where ebay is filtered. I can't do beans about this while I'm at work.

  • if i REALLY wanted it... would not let that small difference get in the way... too close to take the chance.... if another is readily available... i would just keep waiting though.

    good luck!

If you really want the item, then put a top price

on it that will top most if not all snipers. You can't

pinch pennies and expect to win a contested coin.

    Better yet BIN IT!

  • Buy it now if you really want the coin. You'll get sniped in all probability. I HATE auctions that end when I'm at work!

It all depends upon the coin, John. There are some coins for which you would throw away the price sheets and pay whatever it takes. For others, you would simply place a proxy bid at your maximum and let the chips fall where they may; there will be others.

  • SM,

There are two from the same seller, both with a BIN of $100.

I tend to agree. I'd love to save $10 but what a pain in the .....ahem ....... to have frustration and anxiety over 15 bucks.

Remember that teletrade would have the added buyer fess. Go for it if you want it.
I just paid 20% over spot for a piece of certified gold I wanted for my type set so join me in the pain.

  • Crap,

The BIN disappeared now that the reserve has been met. If I BIN on the other one I may win the one I'm bidding on although I doubt it. I think I'll go ahead and buy the other one and hope I get sniped.

  • Thats cool. If there were Georges St. Pierre autographed ASE's I'd snap one up for a hondo!

I thought the BIN disappeared once the first bid was made?

In any case I've seen coins where I was willing to bid beyond the original BIN to get them. Just didn't see them in time.

Not if the bids are less than the reserve amount.
  • The original coin I bid on just sold for just over $92. I bought the other one the seller was offering BIN for 99 and $4.50 shipping.

I spent 10 more bucks but didn't have any of the drama of the snipe and of course had I been bidding it could have went higher.

The chase is 90% of the fun JJ, but if I really wanted the coin I would hit the BIN button.

I just bought my first Lance coin as well. Love it. He is awesome. The holder is pretty neat too. Well worth the money to put it into my collection.

Buy the coin, not the signature.

j/k. I'd buy one too, but I'd rather buy Morgans =p
