Selling 2006-W UNC Gold sets…how can I maximize return?

Assuming I have a several dozen 2006-W Gold AGE Unc sets that are mint sealed….and I choose to redeploy those assets elsewhere as it looks like the 2006-w will not be the king I thought it would be…

What would be the best way? Option one: Open them up and submit the coins to PCGS for bulk grading. Option two: try to sell them sealed on eBay (which isn’t working…)

Advice Appreciated.

  • I would sell them on here before going to the chizzlingbay. Save on those fees.

  • I am very glad these aren't going to be the king's of the series. Nov.15 TV Repairmen walked out of my house with the 1oz. NGC 70. I filed report but police said because he didn't break in, that I was out of luck.

OH, if they qualify for the first strike cut-off I would submit them to PCGS and sell the rest of the on BST-forum. GOOD LUCK

  • If you bought them from the mint, you have already maximized your return!! Gold's up, since you bought them, So sell them in the sealed box, or opened. Either way, you have done good!!!image

I took the advice of forum members a bit back and broke up my sets, sold the 1 oz (did well), and stowed the fractionals for now. The latter only ended up costing $470, which is only $553/oz. They WILL still be king IMHO.

  • Bill, Can you get First Strike with the ship dates? I honestly thin that grading them is the best bet, the MS70's sell for a good premium and you should get close to a third MS70's. Look at teh 69:70 ratio and use that as a basis for calculating what is the best way. You may want to sell a sealed set to see what the market is if you don't have any recent data. I would grade them.
  • PCGS did not give the First Strike® designation to any burnished 2006-W AGE's except the ones that came with the 20th anniversary sets.

I like that math. My last AGE, a 0.5 oz, sold for melt at the local B&M. That's still 10% over issue price, which sure beats a savings account or CD.

I agree that the 06s will be winners... if the whole W concept really appeals to 20,000 or so collectors.

  • i would hang on to them,i've heard the mint plans on selling the 2007 w when gold settles down, they won't melt the pieces they have made.nobody knows the mintage on the 2006w.

Hold... not because they will be 'king'... but because gold will be going higher. Cheers, RickO

Are you guys saying that the 1/4 oz. and 1/2 oz. 2006-W Gold AGEs won't be keepers? If not them, then which?

    I knew it would happen.
  • i don`t think final mintage numbers are known yet. i had the sets i bought graded and then sold the 1 oz and 1/10 oz and kept the 1/4 and 1/2 oz. i decided to hold them till final mintage numbers are announced. this is one of the MS70
    check out the toning.
