Added mintmark. NGC will back it for that instead of the doctoring I think. I think the 55 DDO might be fake too, but I'm not positive.
Topline, are you listening???

I think he might be in kahoots with more than one ebayer, maybe a ripoff cartelle?

Well, at least they'll refund you once you figure them out. That has to count for something, right?

.....but the ones that figure that out are the very slim minority. the vast majority of his victims are probably starry eyed newbies, thinking they have scored a numismatic prize. Many will only find out when it comes time to sell to a legit dealer, then the bomb is dropped

Yep. He makes more than enough from ripping off his customers that he can afford full refunds. Because of that, people are less likely to leave non-positive feedback like the buyer I quoted, and people will continue to buy from him because of his decent feedback rating.

<< <i>When will people come to their sense about toning? It is, basically, a fad. With the exception of some very knowledgeable collectors, who, early on, began to admire the natural progression of surface degradation due to environmental effects, most 'toners' are new collectors who have been caught up in the fad and pay ridiculously high prices for doctored coins. Make no mistake, the majority are doctored.. and so well, they fool the experts. Too bad really. Cheers, RickO >>
Thanks RickO, very astute comments.
How does he continue to hoodwink the coin community????
Bid at over $1,000??? Why are people so stupid???????

Uh, didn't this seller used to use a bright yellow background?? Or am I thinking of another one....?
Here's an interesting one:
I bought a proof coin from topline. When I got it, it didn't look anything like the photo. I figured it was just the lighting he used to take the image. A couple of weeks ago I sent it to be graded. I haven't got the coin back yet but they emailed me and said that it was graded as PR94, surfaces altered. I emailed topline twice but haven't heard anything. I suspect that I won't either. If you haven't figured it out already I'm new at this.
Any suggestions?

Actually, then, they think the legit dealer is trying to rip them off.

Welcome to the forum. IF you paid by credit card or paypal, do not wait to file your dispute. They usually hope to wait until enough time has past and you can't dispute it. If you do, they will gladly issue a refund to save their feedback rating. But they will not respond until you dispute the claim.
