Won my first gold coin tonight. Not a high dollar coin but high dollar for me in my beginning coin collection. Guess I'll add this to my box of 20 image

What is it? Can't see the picture. (My server @ work blocks Photobucket).

My first gold coin was a 1915 Austrian ducat restrike. Pretty, prooflike, and cheap.

Congrats. Looks like a nice one. I've been collecting off and on for many years and I've never owned a gold coin. image

I think that's about to change though! image
  • Take the plunge it's fun! Actually won it by accident i'm a bid-a-holic. image

    Good job, lad.

Y'know, now that I think of it, my first gold coin was not that 1915 Austrian ducat.

It was a raw Fine 1857 $5.00 Liberty. Worked a summer job to save up about a hundred bucks to buy it in 1982 or thereabouts, when I was sixteen.

    Ditto.

I can remember being a solitary coin collector back in the bad old days, with nobody to show my stuff to except noncollectors, and it was rather lonely.

  • That baby will look mighty fine if gold goes up to $1200 like some think. good move.image
  • That's exactly how my gold collection started, with a raw $5 liberty from ebay. I've had the gold bug ever since. They really are beautiful, nice in the pics but something special about having it in-hand!

Nice coin. And that is the way it starts... one just never seems to be enough. As your collection builds, it is awesome to see them laid out together.... just something about gold... image Cheers, RickO

nice looking coin but you may want to get more picky about slabbed
    ones and the grade.

grade inflation and all. that coin could very well regrade as an
    AU58.
