eBay seller mtc3015....keep a CLOSE eye on this guy!** FloridaBill Update!!**

As posted earlier(can't find the thread), this guy is selling Grandpa's pristine coin collection.
Just check out this seller's coins for sale.

They look like air-brushed coin playmates.
Tonight, someone bought an 1831 CBD for $1736 in RAW condition from Grandpa.
eBay Link2
I know he has 100% Positive Feedback...BUT, I have to believe that will be changing real soon.
As Russ said earlier, and I paraphrase, "no return policy, no Paypal, no way!!"

Looks like AU58 with camera tilt and shadowing to hide the rub.
I wonder why.......

yeah and you can park a Mack truck in it.
and takes grading companies/mail so long it is a couple months before they find out
assuming they submit right away
rather than wait until they sell or die and their estate finds some deals not so good

He does seem to have some nice coins.
Maybe, just maybe, there really WAS a grandpa who collected pristine coins?
Grandpa was active before the TPG revolution.
Still, some of that stuff really oughtta be slabbed, though.

I got the hair and the teeth from mine, so I won't be complaining when I have to brush the hair out of my eyes to see the apples and corn on the cob that I'll be chomping into when I'm in my 80s.

I said I'll be watching it. Does that translate somehow to "bidding" on it????

At 1400, it's already well beyond where I'd go. I think it's circulated, besides being suspected AT.

Been watching this seller for a while now and made a post about it too. The thing that gets me is how high all the auctions go. There have been no less than three Ike sets and everyone of them closed well over ebay average. There was a recent Iowa half that closed right at $200. That coin should have barely sold for half that. Nice, original coins or not I have much suspicion about this seller.

Yikes....talk about your overstatement of the year! Paypal fees are HUGE, especially on coins like that. If the feedback is good and the coin looks good then not taking Paypal shouldn't make one damn bit of difference. Intelligent buyers would look at the coin and the feedback before checking to see if they take Paypal or not. It's like buying the plastic, not the coin...

No returns and no paypal or credit card payment are the ultimate red flags. MOST people know this.
That's all the seller has to say. Screw gramps and the horse he rode out on and screw you too if you don't like my sales pitch
<< <i>Buy the coin, not the story. If you don't want it, too bad.... It's yours, you bought it. >>

If that's what you believe, go right ahead and bid moon money on his auctions. As they say, a fool
and his money are soon parted.

Not sure why you're so quick to defend this seller but feedback is not necessarily the best way to come to a judgment on the matter especially if most of those leaving the feedback possibly are not such astute collectors, and witnessing what these auctions are closing at I'm inclined to think just that. Another curious thing about most of these auctions is the coins hit near market trends within hours of being listed. There are plenty of high profile sellers out there and that does not happen with all their auctions. What's your connection?
Edit: make that the prior page, LOL.
That being said, I completely agree, this seller MIGHT be dishonest or who knows what, but I think judging him based on his Paypal preferences is just silly. Judge the coins, judge the no return policy, but as I stated earlier, not buying PURELY because of no Paypal is assuming you're going to get screwed and it's a shame that people think that way.
Edited to add: No need for name calling Wolf359, I'm not a fool, nor do I plan to bid on any of his auctions.

Well whats the word?? How were the coins??
IF what the seller describes is true (he inherited grandpa's collection)... I don't really see any 'red flags'. And, I would be inclined to believe that this seller is being forthright.
Now, that doesn't mean that I think that these are all *prize gems* though...
My reasoning?
As a SELLER:
(1) No "mutually withdrawn" feedback
(2) Doesn't seem to be a retaliatory feedback seller (on a neutral feedback, he basically said: "sorry you weren't happier" instead of throwing up accusations & excuses)
(3) His *star rating* is pretty darn high
(4) he has repeat buyers
As to the COINS:
(1) If you are not "into" coins... you may have no idea "how" to take appropriate coin photos
(2) The auction descriptions don't appear to be over-hyped or geared towards grading
(3) The auction descriptions appear to come directly from the sleeves/envelopes/inventory
If this WAS grandpa's collection:
(1) He liked really nice 'eye-appeal' coins & new about key-dates
(2) He likely collected the majority of his coins when "cleaning" wasn't really a big deal
(3) He stopped collecting around the time that certification was a "must"
(4) He likely had excellent "old-timer" knowledge of coins... which just isn't enough these days
(5) He probably overpaid for a lot of coins (according to todays standards)
The drawbacks... No PayPal & likely that the majority of these coins would only end up in ANACS net slabs.
The worst of his feedback (Same buyer - left all positive until 5 coins went to NGC)
Nice coin. Thanks

<< <i>There have been numerous threads against TPGs and that there are still some great collections out there that are raw....collectors need to use their eyes and not buy the plastic, yadda yadda. So here we have one of those old time raw collections and most people on here do nothing but complain about how the coins are not certified! >>
a) We don't know that it's actually some old time collection. In fact, I doubt that it is. I think it's a dealer with a good schtick. Not the first time we've seen this on eBay, and I'm sure it won't be that last. b) This is eBay. These are raw coins. The combination of the two is dangerous. If this were a collection at a local shop or show where buyers could actually "use their eyes and not buy the plastic" that would be one thing. However, buying based on eBay images is a completely different ballgame.

The exact same thing just happened to me last week on a high ticket item. There is nothing as a seller you can do to prevent this. Very frustrating!
I accept paypal simply because it is convienient #1, higher prices are realized #2, and #3 buyer are more comfortable. Not because I am any more honest than anybody who does not.
EDIT: Now a no return policy is a no brainer for me, don't bid period.
How many US sellers use the term FDC on American coins? And how many spell grandfather as "granfather?"
In any case that superb 1916 25c was an AU coin and possibly cleaned as well. Whether it's real, is another story. Just way too many really happy buyers...to the point of being unbelievable imo.
That linked 1859-0 dollar in "FDC" is a cleaned slider/AU with obvious knee rub and very little orig luster left. FDC my A$$.

It's a key one for sure....I wouldn't touch this with 'your' ten foot pole!!!!
