After much thought, a semi-reversal on my thoughts on a "box of 20" for collecting...

I think you guys should ALL do it!
The more people that restrict their collecting, the more great coins for me image
Lower prices, more inventory.....I see the benefits.

Lighten your loads, folks, and fill up the BST with nice little, available, goodies image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Let me know what you need, Ron. I'm full up with widgets image

You have a point there Ron.... could release a flood of coins and reduce prices... image Cheers, RickO

With coins, I don't "need" anything, but I do like a lot image
Thanks for the offer though......right now, I am looking with my son for toned Roosevelts for his registry set.
Other than that, I like to collect what I like. I don't have to necessarily finish a set to be happy, though, we are doing some sets from circulation, or even buying piece by piece to finish them.

I still "need" some nicely toned, nicely priced, proof IHCs though .... image

Edited to add: Look at some of the nice gold coins that got freed up by RYK when he went Bo20. Seattleslammer has some nice ones freed up as well on the BST. I do think that if people go down the Bo20 concept, it will be the opposite of hoarders and VAM/Variety folks and will open up the gates for some nice coins to come back on the market.

What do you like? I am doing the boxof 200 +/- 200 and need to get rid of some stuff. image

I do have to say that while I realize rarity usually has a higher profit potential I would rather enjoy getting a dozen widgets.

I prefer the box of approach.

That is potentially a lot of coins. I would need a bit more space to store it all. image

It's classic portfolio management theory at work, and I really don't see why it should be applied to coin collecting. Investing, sure - but coin collecting, nah.

When I invest, I invest - and it's true that a portfolio of 20 stocks will provide diversification. And it's also very true that coin collecting is almost never too far divorced from investing, whether one admits it or not.

However, I find it curious that a coin collector would want to limit his exposure to coins to only 20 pieces. That's a concept that just doesn't sound like collecting, to me. That doesn't imply any negative connotations - it's just not what I would call "collecting."

    I knew it would happen.
