I think the collectors who are comfortable with the Box of Twenty concept are certainly the more experienced collectors.
I think that for newbies like myself (relative) the ability to handle, own, sell, trade...any number of coins is probably a good idea in order to even come to terms with what makes "a" coin special.
Inspiring collection there coinlieutenant.
edited to add: amazing collection rwyarmch. I'm goin' back and look smoe.

Good point, I probably saw 1000+ Indian half eagles before I saw a look that I was sure I liked.

I totally disagree. I think many people conclude on their own to keep fewer, better coins which is the concept embodied by the 'Box of 20'. >>
Oh, now it's a "concept embodied by the "Box of 20". Not just a box of 20 coins cuz that's what will fit. Uh huh. Nuance.
I swear, the concepts that become big deals around here. It's hilarious.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Here is a little bit of the rationale for limiting my coins to a small set which is brought about by practicality and eccentricity...completing a series is of no interest to me so putting together let us say a Red Book variety set of Middle Dates would result in a mundane set of coins given my overall budget - instead I like having for example a set of 10...
1.Mint State Condition Census 2 Herman Halpern coin 2. Mint State Condition Census 2 Robinson Brown I coin 3. 1828 N10 - nice Red Book variety 4. Mint State 1839 Petite Head - nice Red Book variety 5. Pair of 1823s N1/N2 6. Pair of 1821s N1/N2 7. Jack Robinson Superior coin 8. A John Wright plate coin
and for a rover a 1830 R5 penny...
...same goes for books - I have owned a lot of coin books but narrowed to ~ten but could then afford a mint Frossard, Kolbe bound 6/25 copy edition of Browning, 3/50 beautiful Alan Grace bound copy of Charles Davis American Numismatic Literature and as soon as I sell a penny a Deluxe COMITIA AMERICANA AND RELATED MEDALS...
Course, following the naval gazing to it's logical conclusion, fewer coins probably equals more expensive ones, and if I was dealing coins, I'd like that notion. One $10,000 sale versus 100 $100 sales? You bet.

LOL - I didn't realize that keeping "fewer better coins" was so complicated.

So you think this is some kind of ruse so dealers can save on postage?
Kidding aside, I think you'd find as a dealer that it's in your interest to have clients building extensive collections of items which you are readily (relatively speaking) able to supply - such as a full set of Morgans by date and mint, or a complete US type set.
I actually did try the box of 20 thing a while back but I ended up with a type set that looked kinda empty missing all of the coins in between.
I really like seeing all of the different circulated aged looks of a coin in a given series. Now if it is a seres where everything is blast white then it is easier but with old circ gold or copper, that is a different story.

Most likely not for me; tho I suppose some might gravitate to it on their own for whatever reason. If anything the box of 20 concept might encourage PCGS to come up with a bigger box.
