10th Anniversary Platinum Set

I apologize if this has been discussed recently, but when I try to do a search, I get the "an error has occurred" message. I see these are going on sale December 13th at noon. one set per household, at the price of $1949.95. With 30,000 sets planned, is the platinum Eagle collector base strong enough to support the price in the aftermarket? Just wondering if I want to lay out two grand for a set. Any opinions?

Cost of 1 platinum 10th anniversary set $1956 (shipping of $5.95 included)
Sell 1/2 oz proof platinum for $725 (an ounce of platinum is worth $1450)
My cost for the Reverse Proof Platinum coin: $1956-$725= $1231
The question is: Do I want to spend $1231 to acquire this Reverse Proof coin?
If the Mint cut this program short, the answer is YES
I knew it would happen.

I think I will order a set and do what some have said and sell the regular proof and keep the Reverse proof.
Hopefully NGC or PCGS will designate both as Anniversary coins.

<< <i>Sorry, when is the sale date on these? The mint's upcoming products still only go through November. >>
This Thursday, the 13th.

<< <i>NGC has posted their Platinum 10th Anniversary Eagles guidelines. In order for the Proof to receive the designation, the sealed Mint box must be sent in for grading. Once opened, only the Reverse Proof qualifs for the 10th anniversary pedigree. >>
Thanks for the link.
I hope PCGS follows.

Do you have an idea yet of what price you will be seeking the Sets at initially?

All depends on what one is used to, monetarily.
I know a lot of people that go through a lot more for less than $100. I know people that make $8 or $10/hr.
I also know people that have more money than they know what to do with...millionaires many times over. People that have had home theaters in their houses for years. Not talking a dark room and couch either. They couldn't be bothered by doing something like this.
On this board, we have doctors, etc, where $150 is chump change. They spend that much on drinks in 1 night.
There are also people who are trying to make ends meet. Maybe their whole coin budget for a month is that $150. This could be a good thing for them.
I am doing it, along with a friend of mine, as 10% is a quick flip and, while I wouldn't have bought to hold and I wasn't looking to buy/flip this, it does help John/George out, I get paid, and there is no real risk.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>Depends on how you look at it. In every case the people that pre sell us Mint products have received our check long before the credit card bill comes due providing they shipped us the coins promptly (also the mint does not charge your card until they ship) and they get points or miles on their card and $150 sounds like a nice dinner out.... sounds like a deal to me..... >>
Not trying to be argumentative, but after from the Mint and postage to you ($15 or so) and taxes, I am looking at about $85, tops. Sure, it's better than nothing, but not enough to motivate some of us to brave the post office at holiday time.
That said, if you are inclined, I would endorse Mr. Maben's firm. I bought the Jefferson First Spouse from the Mint, did not care for it, sold it to MCM, and received a prompt check.
Edit: Bochiman, I just saw your post. It's not just about the money, but it's also about committing the product to someone else and not participating in any significant upside (if there is any). Remember, Mr. Maben is not running a charity; he intends to profit from this arrangement, and I doubt he would be going through the hassle if he only expected to realize 10%. I am more inclined to buy it and see what happens. His buy price might go up after the sets go on sale.

1550.
think of it as a 400 lottery ticket.
I agree that FS coins will probably do well. Who knows, maybe the 10th Anniv labeled Regular Proof in PR70 will be a low pop coin and rocket like the reg Gold 20th Anniv labeled coin did in 06.

I don't think there is a real need for a preloaded cart on this issue. Anyone who wants one I think will get one in short time.
How does one get a preload link???? sheeesh!!!
You won't believe how I stumbled across it.
The Product ID # on the regular page for this product is 143498
I noticed that the 2nd and 3rd last #'s change so I change the 49 until I find the right #.
This time it was easy it was 50---143508.
Madison coin cover is the same way this time. Product ID # is 143478 change it to 143488 and you have the preload link.

Joe, you are one slick sonofa......
Yeah but there were only 10,000 of those andmost likely a much larger collector base.

<< <i>If the Reverse Proof Gold from the 20th anniversary set last year is any indication, the platinum Reverse Proof should have a high 70 to 69 ratio (better than 50%) meaning those that order in bulk should all do well.

Mintage while important, is not the only factor when determining value. Appeal and desirability are just as important. The Reverse Proof gold eagles had the same design the Mint has been using since the program started. In the case of the 10th anniversary Reverse Proof platinum eagle, the coin finish was specially designed to enhance the entire design and IMO should really make the coin spectacular in the appeal factor. How many will want one is to be seen, which will affect mostly the 69 values but I do believe the 70's will sell for a substantial premium.

Put the Mint box inside a larger box and pack it in. Use the nasty paper tape to secure it. Takes about 15 minutes.
Drive to the post office. Takes 15-20 minutes for most people.
Stand in line for 30-40 minutes.
Deposit your check.
You're making $85 for 60-75 minutes worth of work. Not worth your time? Okay, then don't do it. But I'm darned thrilled to make around $85 an hour--for a job that easy!
