Number one ! I have never had the privilege of meeting Alan. Alan is not the focus here! The fact that someone at PCGS was asleep at the wheel the day that coin got slabed is the focus!
If this coin was anyother TPG you guys would be all over it. Yes, Grading is subjective.
2 I hold PGCS to the highs standards as they should be! IF you call me today, and say i have this type of coin i would go to my Gray sheet and give you a bid! I wouldn't do that with any other TPG. I would want to see the coin.
Who said this might be a shell game. That same person said what that coin was worth. And others that can see my point . Thank you!
There are still some out there that believe in the hobby! There are some of you that buy off ebay every day and you see these coins. And know what i am talking about.
And tear down an institution over a coin! Give me a break!
PCGS should be glad that i and others are out there and when we find a coin that is a problem we do are best to get that coin and fix it. You guys are only Mad! Because i had the guts to put it up here.
Thank you Pitboss!
By the way i only have 7 NGC Coins!
As of June of this year i was going over 45,000 coins a month. And had to stop! Some Washingtons do have a marker. And by that marker that coin should have never made a MS67!

I think it sure makes people money. Interesting contrast, eh ? >>

If this theory is true than we must achieve stupidity for survival, yes ? It takes money to buy the things we need to survive. So, in essence...if we attain stupidity based on your reasoning, we stand a chance at survival ? This is enlightening. >>
stop trying to be clever. it is'nt working
the fact of the matter is that marketing aims to take advantage of weakness - people's WANTS, not NEEDS. alot of WANTS are driven by $tupidity.
like wanting pocket change to be stuck in pla$tic.
I agree that pcgs should buy this coin back for it's guarantee....it should not be on the market as an MS67. I also agree with the hits that Tyler highlighted - I believe that those are on the coin, not the plastic. And I agree with Mitch, who is also agreeing with the above, if only in a suggestive way! He has seen just about all of the highest end SHQs, and I would trust his judgement ....almost as much as my own!
Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on Earth to be young at heart? And as rich as you are, it's much better by far, to be young at heart!
You may not be able to grade from a photo but that mark on the head of the cow is quite common on the low leafs and should disqualify it from being an ms67. I have seen many of these on the low leafs and have some myself.
<< <i>Is there a reason to insinuate that someone is getting better treatment in the grading room than you ? I think this is rubbish...
...especially when that someone is Alan Hager. >>
I doubt anyone gets special treatment in the grading room. I've sent in coins trhough a number of different major dealers and always either received what I had expected, a grade lower than I expected, or a BB (often times where the coin should have straight-graded anyway).
I've finally found someome who agrees with me that NGS did a terrible job of grading these leaf quarters. I feel that most of their gradings are 2 gradings high.
<< <i>Has anyone here asked for better pictures of the coin? Have any of you seen the coin in hand? Just wondering! >>
No, as usual we are grading the image and extrapolating how the coin appears in-hand.
Silly argument but fun thread. >>
I'm facinated by the fact that without seeing the coin in hand people here can state the PCGS screwed the pooch on this coin. If you are so sure PCGS blew it, buy the coin and send it in for a grade gaurentee.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
Again, you can get a rough idea from the pictures. But you can't assign a firm grade until you see the coin in hand. You don't know if the hits are in the plastic or the coin. I know, I have taken pictures and lint on the plastic looks like a hit on the coin.
Not not a koolaid drinker by any means, but it's hard to bash PCGS on this until you have seen the coin in person.

I have seen and own many of these coins with the same marks on them that this one has so I have to believe that they probably are on this particular coin. I do not disagree that PCGS is a quality grading company, it's just a fact that many of these coins have some the same distinct marks on them.
It may have happened some time late in the process, I don't know, but I have several with that same mark on the forehead of the cow.( on the low leaf only)
do the coins get "ejected" in some way that would leave a distinctive mark?
it makes me think of st gaudens 20s that all seem to have marks on liberty's legs due to the ejection that takes place after being struck. (i am pretty sure that is why, i remember reading a thread mentioning it by st guru).
me thinks that we have a possible "china syndrome slab" ......................i'd need a pic of the side of the slab

Pure Baloney. You can't grade accurately from a photo and that's what you need to focus on.

It's as nice as many NGC MS67's.
The problem is, it's not worth the PCGS MS-67 price.

If that's true, then it's on the die and is discounted when grading....

Far more likely, the coins have similar marks, not identical.
