    Very.

Have the buyer confirm it before you ship.

I have sent items to an unconfirmed address but I knew the buyer, somewhat.

    Good for you.

Did you state in your auction that you would ship only to confirmed addresses? If not, do so in the future. And, set your preferences in PayPal to reject payments from unconfirmed addresses.

There is no way in hell I'd ship a $1400 coin to an unconfirmed address.

Yes, I did specify in seller payment instructions that I would ship to verified addresses only.

I state I won't accept them in my auctions.
I have had a couple people try.

1st guy....I refused (nicely) and he had already bought a slightly (couple of bucks on a couple hundred dollar item) cheaper unit of the same. He used that excuse to cancel the auction and I figured that was fine (I got more on the relist and he was too spacey for me to want to follow through and force him).

Next one tried, I rejected, nicely, and they went about creating a verified/confirmed account. Took a few extra days but that was fine.

Recent one tried, I rejected, then they sent Money Order for the amount....took 3 weeks for the whole thing.

I still won't accept them if they are unverified/unconfirmed though (unless it is for a very small amount... $50ish or so) or know the person.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

If you did that, I would definitely reject it unless I knew and trusted the buyer. I'll occasionally ship a small item to an unconfirmed address if I have a good feeling about the transaction and the history of the buyer, but no way in Hell for $1400.

Work with the buyer to see if they can get their address verified. Failing that, I'd ask for a check or money order and wait for it to clear.

Verified and confirmed are not the same thing. Verified just means they have a bank account linked. Confirmed means that the shipping address matches the billing address of their credit card. An account can be verified and not have a confirmed address.

I'll reply with the opposite postion just to provide balance. I accept 10 or 12 payments monthly from unverified or unconfirmed addresses w/o a problem. I evaluate each one based on ebay feedback and paypal history. Some coin buyers are privacy freaks. Some members here don't have paypal accounts just for that reason. These guys won't be piping up to defend the unconfirmed addresses since that would draw attention to them. I have rejected a few that smelled fishy and they tured out to be fishy. So be very careful but the odds are the buyer is legit. Watch especially for tells of a hijacked account. --Jerry

I usually have no problem shipping to an unconfirmed address for a small transaction (no more than $50-100) if the feedback history looks good and nothing smells like dead fish about it. But still, I'd really have to trust someone before I'd accept a $1400 payment from an unconfirmed address.
  • If you ship the item and the buyer files a dispute.....guess who is out 1400 bucks ???

Just email him. One of my recent sales went to a known specialist with unconfirmed address, so I shipped anyway. Had just gotten back from PO and received his email with the correct address. Ran back to PO and changed the thing in time. But if I didn't know this guy was right as rain I never would have shipped a 400 dollar coin.
