The 1896-S and the 1903-S are the two money coins in the lot, and the 1896-S has severe rim damage limiting commercial value. The 1903-S is the coin that must have driven the high price. Even it has a pretty deep appearing scratch on the cheek.
From these obv only photos, it's tough to tell the grade of the 1903-S.

It entirely depends on the 1903-S. If it's an AU50, then the winner got a great deal. If it's an XF45, then they got a fair deal. If it's an XF40, they did fine. If it's a BB, they did bad.

Grades all seem to be AU-50 or better.
By the pics, it seems only the 1885 and 1886 have a shot at being an ms65, but even this is probably a long shot.
