Neo Renaissance article

There was an article in Coin World about the proposed program for new liberty design circulating coins. For those that haven't seen it, the author (NOT Moy, sorry) proposes cycling a new liberty design on one denomination per year starting with the half dollar in 2010. However, the Kennedy design would be produced for circulation alongside the new liberty design. Then, after that year, the liberty coin would move to the quarter and be in coproduction with the Washington design.

He also mentions redesigning the reverses of the quarter, dime, and cent.

I'd much rather see circulating coins of the given denomination be of the liberty design and just keep the president coin in the mint and proof sets so the series wouldn't skip a year. Plus half dollars don't circulate much anyway...

With the redesign of the reverses, I'm much more in favor of a totally new design even if it must feature the same old president. Tacking a new reverse onto a 40, 50, 60, or 100 year old obverse isn't progress. This would be an excellent time to pull out the Fraser Lincoln design, or the flowing hair pattern small dollar.

Your thoughts?

Anything except dead presidents.... hopefully ART - but they have had so many chances and failed... (with the exception of the Sacagawea)... not much hope at all. Cheers, RickO

What are our national ideals and how can we best express them on circulating coinage?

Honoring presidents and other individuals and groups is best done on commemorative coinage. Circulating coins should express the nation's fundamental ideals as stated in the Constitution and other essential defintions of the United States.

    Just my opinion....

    image too.

Wish we would bury the presidents in 2010 forever. Our founders would be summarily disgusted with our coins.
