Occasionally you get someone who brings yo the bank a group from an estate but its generally so infrequent that any profit would be eaten up by your gas and time checking.
Since these do not circulate there is a literal motherlode of silver waiting to be mined but its just like panning for gold. You gotta be patient and methodical.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
I take 2 or 3 out of circulation every year or so. Don't check bank rolls, just the checkers change drawers whenever I get a chance I have about 8 or 10 after years of checking, about half that many 64's and alas, no frankies at all

I suppose the answer to this question is fairly relative, but comared to all other US silver coins, there are still TONS out there. I am a fairly avid roll searcher and have kept records for the past three years of both the number of silvers found and that number reflected as a percentage of coins searched. I go through 10 boxes ($5000 face) per week, so over time, I think that this is a large enough sampling to get a fairly accurate picture of how many silver halves are still out there. i have found that the average per box is 10 to 12 40% silvers and 3-4 90% silvers. This translates to about 1.5% of the halves that I search being silver. That being said, don't think you can go get a box of halves from the bank today and expect these results. It is very possible to go through many boxes without seeing a single silver coin and then pull $50, $100, or even $200 face out of the next box. It is all luck of the draw and the only way to have any meaningful success in roll searching is VOLUME, unless of course you happen to be an incredibly lucky person.
The other day i just went through 100 dollars worth of Kennedy halves and got one 40% half. It took more time to put them back in the wrappers. But I have around 33 Walker Halves (only like 3 that you have hard time seeing the date) and 14 Frankies and 2 1964 Kennedy halves that I would sell.

This is very true. If you are going to go through large amounts of halves, it is a good idea to find a local bank with a free coin counting machine and open an account. There is no way I would take the time to roll boxes of halves.
Well my sons wife works in the vault at a big local bank here. She's been getting me anywhere from $1500 to $2000 face every year so there's still quite a few.

Well aren't YOU lucky! Does that qualify for a "You Suck"? I would think so!

<< <i>How about some speculations: how many are still in circulation/ lying in bank vaults around the country? >>
My guess....several million ...
