Cherried a '55 Bugs out of the local dealer's "bargain/junk box"

Pretty nice pull. He had just thrown it in there 'cause it wasn't selling in the case (no, it wasn't marked "Bugs Bunny" on the 2X2). It is ever so close to being FBL, but a touch weak on the bottom lines just to the viewer's left of the crack.....darn. Thanks for playing.

Nice catch.... pays to look... Cheers, RickO
  • Sweet! It still pays to cherrypick! I met a guy in a coin shop that had his 7070 with him...he showed me his 1864 2-Cent piece which he said he paid about $60.00 for in AU condition....said it was marked as "Large Motto" at the show...after looking closer...it was the small motto!!!

Pretty cool. I would think this variety is well known enough that a dealer would look for it, but I guess that's what happens when you assume.

My dealer could care less about varieties/VAMs/Overton's/etc. Date, Mintmark, and condition are the ONLY things he's concerned about. Lucky for me. image

We should all have dealers like that.

Another great kind of dealer to have is one who lives and dies by the sheet. Good way to pick up slabs that are PQ for the grade as well as coins that are obviously undervalued by the sheet.

    Yep, He's that too. image

The only drawback is that he isn't very big and his inventory doen't change very often, but I guess that's good too, so I can have time to look through all his stuff before it goes out the door.......muuuaahahaaaaa

may I ask, why call it "Bugs Bunny"? and how we tell that.

The "Bugs Bunny" variety Franklin Half Dollars are recognized by the rabbit teeth-like like projections in front of the mouth. Several Dates are known for this.
