1924D Lincoln PVC Contamination, What To Do...?

A weakly struck 1924D. The coin has PVC "issues". Rescued it from a flip 4 years ago. Should I;

1. Do nothing.

2. Soak it in acetone.

3. Soak it in olive oil, or some other oil.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! I have never dipped or soaked anything from the collection, but am concerned this one might get worse (if I continue to do nothing). If something can help this, please let me know. Again, Thanks!

    Try acetone first. If that does not work, then try the olive oil.
  • I have several, non-key, examples taking a long bath in grape seed oil. They are on week #2 and have already given up a lot of the junk on the surfaces without having laid a Qtip on them. Also thought I've read acetone is a no-no on copper (could be wrong though).

    That's verdigris, not PVC, thus you should learn to live with it.

    A quick rinse in white vinegar (not a soak) will help. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with distilled water afterwards.. Cheers, RickO

    Take a Q-Tip and rub the stuff off. Might get it all and probably won't hurt the coin. Pretty non-invasive.
