Using comcast for photo hosting?

FYI... I normally use my comcast webspace to host my ebay photos but it's been down for weeks while they do the "migration" to the new photo hosting system (I use photobucket now). I had my wife call them up to whine about it and they quickly handed out a full credit for next month's internet service. If you're having the same problem you might want to give them a call and get your $50.

I dumped comcast and their huge fees a few years ago. DSL is plenty fast and only $15. image

My Comcast connection has been disconnecting, and slow for weeks. The technician is coming today.

Is DSL more reliable? Would I notice any difference in speed bringing up CU threads containing lots of large pictures?

Not sure but I have the cheapest DSL and CU photos pop up pretty quick. You could always try it. If you don't like it sign back up with comcast for half price on the first 6 months. image

Most websites (well, not sure if most anymore, but a lot still) restrict downloads to a lot less than 1mb per connection so, there isn't likely much difference between DSL/Cable for most people.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Comcast is pretty fast. I'm getting about 6mb/sec sustained with bursts over 20mb/sec.

Unless you are downloading 4 Gigabyte movies why would you need that much speed?

After about 25 minutes on the phone with a clueless person who mumbled her name unintelligibly at the beginning of my ordeal, I now have a trouble ticket number so that a technician can call me tomorrow. It was clear shortly into the call that I wasn't going to get much help, much less a refund from her. Makes me wonder if they get the rejects from eBay working there. I just hope this was one of the calls that was monitored for quality assurance purposes.

Comcast tech arrived about four hours after I called about my internet problem. My speed is 4 GB/sec and I have a new cable modem. Everything else seems to check out OK. I have my fingers crossed that there will be no more disconnects.

I have 7 MBps DSL from Qwest and I've had very little problems with it.

If we want to talk problems, the 1 year I had Comcast I had 4 outages. The 4 years before and after Comcast I had DSL with 0 outages. It may be a tad bit slower, which I still don't notice but it seems to be more reliable.

I called recently to complain about them being down and to downgrade. Surprisingly they agreed to cut my bill if I didn't downgrade for the next 12 months. Its worth a call.
