    Typical LDS die erosion.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

  • "Orange peel" is a term normally used to describe a certain type of original toning on gold coins. That's gold the metal, not "golden" color. The term has no applicability to Sac dollars. Maybe we need a different term, lemon, or grapefruit LOL ...

No... check some pictures in your reference book... easy to mistake until you actually see it. Cheers, RickO

    Thanks. It graded ms67.
The obverse shows absolutely no signs of die errosion.
Is it normal that only one side would show like this. You'd think the dies would wear the same.

The obverse die may be new while the undated reverse die may have been carried over from a prior year.

I have a couple of 2001's that show that orange spotting. Maybe too close to some paper?

That explains it. They're still using 2000 reverses. Cheap SOBs!
