From someone who has never tried to crossover yet, wouldn't it be wiser to 'crack-out' coins to be crossovered than submit the other TPG's plastic? That is, you pay for the grading and PCGS plastic, yet the cost is the same as if the other TPG's grade is inflated in PCGS's opinion, and they send the coin back to you in the original plastic, but you still pay for the crossover fees. This is sorta like being BBed.

Which of the following would you send to ANACS for grading?

    MS64 or better DMPL Morgan
    1895-s Morgan MS63
    IHC Proof 65
Any Charlotte mint gold coin problem free XF or better
CBH AU 58 nice original surfaces and luster
Draped bust quarter –whizzed and scratched

I disagree. A slab without a sticker is worthless.

The obvious answer is the whizzed and scratched coin. At least is will get into a holder that spells out the problems the coin has and keeps unscrupulous sellers from selling a problem coin to someone who otherwise wouldn't know better.

  • I recently sent in a 1909 s indian cent in anacs vf-20 and it crossed at grade. Also in the same submission I sent an 1877 indian cent in anacs vg-10 and pcgs liked it so much they gave it a f-15. So you guys just keep passing over those junky old anacs slabs, me I think I might just take a look at them.

I have to like the coin AND the slab in which it is housed, or else I don't buy it. The fact of the matter is that the first thing people look at when buying a coin is the number on the slab, and whose slab it is. Many of them couldn't grade the coin if their lives depended on it.

Grading is too inconsistent for me to be bothered with spending much time and energy trying to upgrade / cross coins. I've heard too many stories and seen a few situations myself; I just don't need the aggravation.

Show me a successful cross or upgrade, and you can easily find ten people who supposedly know what they are doing who tried this and are ******-off with their results.

I'm a koolaid drinker, but I still look at coins in the top four for nice coins to add to the collection. You're hurting your collection if you don't. Just my honest opinion. I've crossed coins to PCGS from each service at same.

    i agree with coxe.

i have seen some old anacs net slabs that look better then regular
    pcgs/ngc coins.

let alone some of the choice old coins in anacs slab.

what is left now days is just that, leftovers. they were an amazing
    company.
